Faversham to LHR - can’t buy the route I want

I want to travel from Faversham to Terminal 3 LHR. National Rail & Trainline insist on sending me via St Pancras then Tube to Paddington & Heathrow Express.

It makes more sense with a limp & a suitcase to go Fav - Abbey Wood (1 change, same platform at Rochester), then Liz line direct to LHR. BUT I can’t convince the sites to agree & therefore can’t buy a single ticket end to end.

It’s not the end of the world to have to buy 2 tickets, but:
  1. Will I lose out price wise?
  2. What am I doing wrong?
Confused of Faversham.

Checking Fujitsu Journey Planner, Faversham - Heathrow Rail is showing as valid via Abbey Wood.

It's possible there could be Engineering Work on the date you're looking for.

One workaround would be to buy the ticket through BRFares, as that does a Fare Only enquiry.

Consider the forum's site instead, which will also happily sell you tickets for the journey you'd like (including some splits which will save money versus the ticket to Heathrow Rail/a Travelcard itself):

If we know the date(s) for your journey, we can see if that's causing a problem in this case.

It must be finding that as the quickest journey. I would agree that you should look at the forum site or TRainsplit as it will find you a journey by your preferred route, and cheaper because it won't automatically include use of Heathrow Express.

Thank you all. I’ll use the site’s ticketing system. I think as @Haywain says the Nat Rail site is stymying me by giving me the quickest route (I suppose that’s all it can sensibly do?).

If you'd like to travel via Abbey Wood, you should tell National Rail or Trainline or whoever that you'd like to travel via Abbey Wood. On the National Rail web site you'd select "Route options" to do this.

Most, if not all, planner-based retailers let you do something like that, it's certainly no reason to choose one retailer over another.
