‘Abandoned’ rolling stock and locos on the Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway

A ride close by and idle scrolling on satellite imagery led me to an interesting assortment of rolling stock on a small section of the Gwendraeth Valley Railway, just south of the charmingly named Muddlescwm Farm (GR: SN 420 059).

There are some good images of this lot on Geograph from six years ago:

Comparing satellite images across Google and OS Maps, the wagons and locos appear to have moved, so presumably it’s some kind of private collection, but I can’t find any information online.

Can anyone shed light?

It’s an ongoing preservation venture, here is their Facebook page:

There are some items that I believe are not yet on site but owned by the group, including 03119, 03141
and LEV3 R3 RDB977020 railbus ex Ireland

Interesting – thank you! I’m very surprised this didn’t come up when I searched with all the obvious terms.

ST Publications UK Combined Summer 2026 gives the site code GVR and lists 03141 as there whilst 03119 is at the Dean Forest Railway.

Yes, the sole example RDB97709. It was initially sold into preservation in 1986 to the Neve Valley Railway. It then moved to the East Kent Railway in 1992 where it was used as overflow seating for their buffet car cafe. it was then put up for sale and acquired in 2011 by the Gwendraeth Valley Railway Society and moved to the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway for storage before being moved from there to it's current home.

That’s a really rather significant asset, I do hope it sees restoration someday!
