I wonder how many companies who were $40 trillion in debt and running an annual deficit of $2 trillion per year with no realistic plan to reverse or even just substantially reduce that deficit would be paying a dividend to their shareholders?

Well, Trump does have a long history of bankrupt companies behind him. This is just a bigger version of his normal modus operandi. It's hard to tell whether it's the greed, the corruption or the incompetence which has dominated.

The fact is he knows full well that regardless of the midterm results no money is going to be paid, see the promised DOGE cheques.

Exactly, he has nothing to lose by making empty promises just like he has done many times before. I'm 100% sure that in the extremely unlikely event that the republicans don't lose their majority, there will be no $5000 payment to any ordinary U.S. adult citizen.
It's primarily incompetence. He has a legendary low intelligence and his narcissism and fragility just makes him act impulsively to restore his own feelings of self worth. It's worth taking a deeper dive into what makes a dark-triad narcissist (he ticks all the boxes) to better understand his unusual and unorthodox style.

Like the senile moron he is, he laid waste to several decades of careful diplomacy when he said it. At the end of the day though, what he says and what he wants are frankly irrelevent when it comes to the people and governments on either side of the Irish border deciding to unite as one. It's a decision that entirely rests with them and no-one else.
Besides, it's not like he really cares either way what happens to Ireland and whichever path it decides to take in the future; it seems to me that what lies at the core of this is one more way of making life difficult over here for the mainland GB government for not kowtowing to him and kissing the ring without question; same as with the whole Falklands debacle. Anything to give Westminster a headache for daring to show anything resembling a backbone and all but telling him to do one is fair game as far as he's concerned.

Yeah, I've been aware of her and her outspoken views regarding her uncle for some time now. One of the very few people in that family with any morals, scruples, brains and common sense.
It appears that according to DJT, 16 is old if you're a girl that he wants to ogle, but 35 is young if you're DJT...
Only thing is, Donald Trump was 35 years old in 1982 when the Falklands war happened! It's becoming increasingly clear that his grip on reality is tenuous at best.

Didn't happen today, now his aides are suggesting he'll return on Wednesday. While stopping short of 'I'll eat my hat' territory should he return, I'd be amazed. My mind was made up that he died weeks ago.
