If so, that's jointed track - the normal way to join adjacent rails (often of standard rail length, such as 60 feet). It was the normal way of connecting track, until the advent of Continous-Welded Rail (CWR).

1. The joint are not ordinary rail joints they are Insulated Block Joints (IBJs) at the end of track circuit sections for signalling, thus sometimes (at a minimum of 1 end of the section) requiring cables to be attached to the rails.It’s a bit of a messy look imo. Much prefer the G55 sleeper with the centralised groove running through.
