Southeastern staff claimed Anytime ticket tied to specific train

why would an Anytime ticket not be valid... erm... anytime?
Whilst it isn't the case in this thread it can be because a railcard discount has been applied and the railcard is not valid at 'any time', such as a Two Togeter Railcard which is only valid after 0930 on weekdays.

If it's got a Railcard attached to it which puts time restrictions on it. eg not to be used before 10am on weekdays.

Ah sorry, didn't see the above response before sending.

I'm never going to try to claim that the UK Train Ticket system is simple to understand, but why would an Anytime ticket not be valid... erm... anytime?
On a line with more than one operator, the train could be the wrong colour. In other words although the ticket was "Anytime" it was restricted to one TOC only.

in which case wouldn't it say so prominently on the ticket? It states plainly that this is an "anytime ticket" between 2 places. You can't expect "normals" to go looking for hidden restrictions.
(and the sooner that there are no TOCs at all, the better.)

Are posts 31 to 34 just an academic discussion or are they seeking to justify the actions of staff refusing a valid ticket? I very much doubt that the staff, the subject of this thread, would have any knowledge of these refinements, still less the ability to draw upon them in support of their stance.

It’s not relevant here, but I would absolutely expect staff to know when a railcard time restriction makes an Anytime ticket invalid.

Post #31 clearly states that it isn't the case in this thread, so I don't see how it could be seen as justifying anything in this thread.

PTSO or platform depending on the weather
Canterbury West only has one train operator (i.e. Southeastern) but both domestic and high speed services stop there.

I reckon these people were agency staff. My wife and I regularly use the station and arrive on either the domestic or high speed and never encounter a problem.

Our webTIS issued this ticket incorrectly. We have a fix pending.

Its disappointing that the customer was treated in the manner. It should have been clear to anyone that they were not at fault here.

Hi all and apologies for the delay in responding (my wife is about to undergo major surgery at the moment which is a bit of a distraction). I just wanted to thank you all again, and note that the Southeastern senior staffmember did reach out to ensure the matter was escalated (as did another forum member in DMs, who I will respond to as soon as possible - apologies again). Thanks to @Haywain for reaching out on Twitter, it is very much appreciated. We sent effectively what we wrote here to Southeastern and are waiting to hear back from them, and I will of course update on the response.
