Options for Northern to repair or replace the damaged 769 from the Southport line incident?

Considering it was a 769 involved in the incident doesn't this create a headache for Northern regarding whether it can be repaired or not? Are spare parts for 769s hard to come by or is there any way of getting them?

For example if it needs a new cab it will need to be sent away long term for this to be done and has Northern got enough resilience in the fleet cope with one 769 missing?

I think there are like 30 769/9s (previously planned for GWR) just sat around doing nothing.
There were 19. There's now 16 1/2 left.
2 converted to "Freight FLEX" for GBRf by Wabtec Doncaster.
1 half of one burned out at Stoke.

There are also two "stripped out" Ex. TfWR 769s at Long Marston being used for various testing.

Why is it going to Springs Branch and not Allerton? Thought it would end up at either Allerton or Newton Heath for maintenance to be carried out

Springs Branch is much nearer? Only a mile and a bit from Wigan.

Yes Springs Branch much closer. It is highly likely it cannot be coupled from the crash end. If the driving controls are also unusable and it needs to be driven from a unit coupled behind, it will likely be driven at 5mph. If its final destination is Allerton (far more likely than Newton Heath) then it will probably be done over 2 nights.

How is maintenance carried out at Springs Branch? It can't be anything too heavy as there's no sheds there unlike Newton Heath and Allerton which is why I asked the question of why it was going to Springs Branch instead of Allerton although the reply of how long it would take to get to Allerton does seem plausible.

Now its back at Springs Branch what will happen to it next? Can we gauge of how long it will be before it will be back in service, could we see it back in service this year or are we realistically looking at sometime next year now depending on how much damage has been caused?

It can probably be taken on by road from Springs Branch
