Maths (and sense!) check before submitting delay repay appeal to TfW

Hello everyone

I write for a maths (and sense) check before I disagree with TfW's calculation of delay repay compensation.
Last Friday I had tickets for a journey from Newcastle to Cardiff as follows:

0824-0913: Newcastle to York
0958-1136: York to Manchester Piccadilly
1230-1545: Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central

The last service was delayed and arrived at Cardiff at 16:29.

I bought the tickets on the forum site as one continuous itinerary (in other words I have the email which says "first go to York, wait, go to Manchester, wait" etc) with the following tickets:

Newcastle to Manchester Stations: Advance (First Class) at £41.60
Newcastle to Manchester Stations: Advance (First Class) at £41.60
Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central: Advance (First Class) at £31.15
Two Together Railcard
Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central: Advance (First Class) at £31.15
Two Together Railcard

Total £145.50.

As arrival was delayed 30-59 mins I am entitled to 50% compensation per TfW's website (https://tfw.wales/help-and-contact/rail/delay-repay), so £72.75, and I submitted my claim earlier today. I received a quick response which calculates the compensation at £41.60

Just to double check before I submit an appeal, is my maths correct and it should be £72.75?

Looks like they've just calculated the Delay Repay as 50% of the total fare(s) that were paid for the Newcastle to Manchester part of the journey. So, yes, would query why it's not also 50% of the fare(s) additionally paid for the Manchester to Cardiff Central part of the journey. In other words, an extra £31.15 in total is due!

Yes, your maths is correct. They've compensated you for the bits of the journey which weren't delayed, but not for the bit which was! It's usually the other way round.

Thanks, I am glad I am not going mad. For each passenger I uploaded two PDFs, one for each passenger with both tickets present (i.e NCL-MAN on page 1, MAN-CDF on page 2) and maybe the auto system has just used the first page? The TfW delay repay site still shows the claim in progress, even though I have a notification email, but when that's updated I'll appeal and maybe a human looking at the details will have a different take.

Just to close this off I submitted an appeal this morning and already have had a response confirming the balance of the delay repay will be paid to me as we calculated.
