Should physical barriers be installed to prevent access to platforms shortly before trains depart?

In your opinion.
In the railway’s opinion, it is wheels roll. And in this example, the railway calls the shots.
Thus us what I'd like to see for a train advertised to depart at 2000
1958; last call for the 2000 to wherever
20:00:00 (dead on 8pm) whistles blown, check to see if anyone is about to board. Pause if they are.
20:00:20 check if safe to close doors.
20:00:30 close doors
20:00:35 despatch given
20:00:40 wheels roll, as per working timetable.
Adjust above to suit local circumstances.
Any reason why this can't be adopted?

The working timetable says 20:00 though.
The railway is paid for by the public, both from fares and from taxes. It should do as we say.
who is ”we?”
The paying public - customers, taxpayers, voters.
Either change the working timetable to 20:00:40, or the public one to 1959? Probably the latter would be best.
As it's Euston, they had probably only just called the platform.
So the Working Timetable should be. The Public Timetable (and hence departure boards etc.) however should show departure times a minute or so earlier. This would improve things for a lot of passengers. It's not unusual for the PTT to show arrival times later than that on the WTT.
Not all of them, though. I’m a customer, taxpayer and boter, and I want the wheels to roll at departure time.

If we were ever to go down this road, it would have to be the latter. Remember the railway works on half minute increments.
