The hoardings are now down and there’s a big notice announcing the official opening as being at 16.00 on Monday 7th September.

Nope.
This is the one to the rear / east of the subway that allows mpre direct ccess to the new developments around there (mainly university related).
Yes sorry - my mental compass was defeating my attempts to describe it more precisely. As said in the quote - the new access to the subway at the platform 13/15 end.

Yep, primarily Bristol Uni's new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus which (not by accident) opens on the same day. https://www.bristol.ac.uk/temple-quarter-enterprise-campus/
Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus (TQEC) is a new University of Bristol campus in the heart of the city.

A place where great ideas come together.

Students, researchers, businesses and communities can tackle shared societal challenges, transform ideas into impact, and work alongside industry partners to shape the future.

TQEC will drive innovation, support growth and generate new opportunities for the region and beyond by connecting a world-class academic community with real-world expertise.
IIRC the new entrance was within the TQEC's construction site so couldn't open until that was ready.

There is a Network Rail media release
opens 4pm on 7 September
The new eastern entrance at Bristol Temple Meads will open from 4pm on Monday 7 September, marking a significant milestone in the transformation of one of Britain's busiest and most historic railway stations.

Delivered by Network Rail in partnership with the Bristol Temple Quarter partners, the new entrance provides direct access between Bristol Temple Meads and the University of Bristol's new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, whilst improving connections for communities and businesses in St Philip's Marsh and the east of the city.

The £23 million project is expected to serve around 2.5 million passengers each year by 2030, as part of longer-term work to double the capacity of the region’s busiest station. The new entrance was funded by some of a £94.7 million of government funding awarded to the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (WECA) to support the delivery of three new entrances to Bristol Temple Meads station.

Is this the one reusing the old Brunel train shed ?
No, it is south east side nearest platform 15, but 2 other entrances to follow, and there is a reference to bus no longer using station approach (although having buses at different station exits will need sensible signage, by bus route, not just all buses that way) so people use correct ticket gates

The first of three new entrances to be delivered, the eastern entrance will open directly onto the new campus, dramatically improving connectivity between the city’s main station, the new future-focused innovation district, and communities in the east of the city.
From Tuesday 8 September the service 8 bus, Bristol Temple Meads to Clifton, will begin serving the new eastern entrance of the station adjacent to the University of Bristol Temple Quarter campus. This will include a new bus stop on Cattle Market Road and an end to use of Station Approach.

Presumably so it can link the new campus to the existing one.
