It's certainly tight, six minutes is the official minimum connection time at Ely, question is whether the train from Cambridge arrives at Ely on the same platform as the departure from Ely onwards to Peterborough. Some do, some don't. Not sure that the trains on your itinerary actually do. A transfer from platform 1 over to platform 3B, if that's what's required, might be an issue if carrying heavy luggage etc., given it's such a relatively tight connection.
P.S. Aren't itineraries from Cambridge through to Peterborough not possible that don't require a change at Ely? 1 train per hour?

Ely only has a subway with ramps between platform 1 and platforms 2/3. It is a long walk. There are no stairs or lifts.
The solution is simple: get the 1517 train from Cambridge which terminates in platform 3A.
But also bear in mind that Ely does do platform alterations: it has flexibility because of bidirectional running between there and Ely North Junction.

Yes - the XC trains e.g. at 15:00 from Cambridge, don't require a change.

I've actually just booked that option today
It's a bit of a wait at Peterborough, but at least we don't have to hurry and one change (in my wife's view) is better than two.
I just thought a couple of trains and less actual waiting time would be better, but that 6 minutes was a little too risky. If anything went wrong, my wife would blame me and the remainder of the journey would have been hell.
We are actually having a 40-minute break in York, then taking first class to NCL, on the 18:33 LNER train. At £42.30 for the two of us (with railcards) it was too good a deal to say no to. Getting 1st all the way from Peterborough to Newcastle was about £170, which is quite a difference
