52 units in service has been acheived seven times so far, first on 29th July and then on 3, 4, 5, 6, 21 August, and then again yesterday.

but most of these dates are due to unit swaps between the peaks with two different units working the same diagram. The only morning that 52 diagrams were covered by 701s was 04.08.26

701027 & 701040 are not in service this morning either are they?

I make it 50 701s in passenger service this morning (assuming 701022 works 2J92 later) for their 53 booked diagrams, which is 1 fewer than yesterday. The three outstanding diagrams are two 2*458/4 (2C03 and 2U09) and one 2*450 (2M03). The last morning that 701s covered all of their booked diagrams remains Monday 15.06.25 (when there were 48 diagrams), which was the last of the seven weekdays on this summer timetable that occurred.
You are correct - apologies. So here are all the in service but not in service units for today:

002
010
016
020
025
027
038
040

Suggestion. Should we count the morning peak as the STANDARD time at which the number of 701s in use on services is counted. I think that is the rough time that most of the observers are looking at anyway. Then we can ignore midday swaps (except if someone wants to note the - particularly, but not only, if 28 or 29 deign to allow passenger upon themselves).

I suppose @Siemens Staines can corroborate as he/they/it seems to get the number of diagrams covered by non 701s.

Just a thought.

Your all going to need to be counting 701/5s soon (says he with no direct/inside info) ?.

Today’s sick list

002
007
010
011
016
020
032
038

which suggests 50 diagrams with 701s

I agree on 50 701s in use this morning now that 701027 has departed from Waterloo on 2S15. The three outstanding diagrams are two 2*458/4 (2U05 and 2U09) and one cancelled (2U07). The cancelled diagram is shown on journeycheck "This is due to the fire brigade dealing with an incident near the railway yesterday" so not due to a train fault. When this diagram resumes, it is allocated 701034 instead of it dropping out to Wimbledon between the peaks.

Wednesday...
5Q87 1000 Derby Litchurch Lane to Wimbledon Park Depot Sdgs
Light loco from Derby RTC to Derby LL for todays delivery has not happened yet (auto activated and 40 minutes late already) so looking unlikely but still time.

Actual delivery auto activated so less likely ?.
(reminder - activation a whole number of hours before departure means auto activated not a human actually demanding/needing it).

Nearest District line
If it was in the siding nearest to the District line, that is the arrival road, so it had arrived from somewhere (via East Putney), probably from Clapham Yard.

Didn't want to appear pedantic, but correct, one of No's 1, 2 or 3 reception roads will have a different meaning to being stabled in one of the stabling sidings! Well noted.

PS: for those unaware the three reception sidings that run parallel to the District line and are connected to the District line just West of Wimbledon Park station are not stabling sidings. These are used for empty trains either departing or arriving the depot and running via the District line to/from East Putney and thence the Windsor lines to/from Clapham Junction/Waterloo.

It was with 038,515,518 & 525 in the block of sidings seen from district line end on.

Been away for a couple of weeks. Depressing to see Staines services consisting of just one 701 out of six services in a hour this morning. And the yellow line shouting at Clapham Junction is at ridiculous levels. Blood pressure restored to pre-holiday levels.

I think I'll start an "everything that's wrong with Clapham Junction" thread. Mr Angry Yellow Line Shouter on platform 5 can have a starring role.

It’s OT but I agree very much: that bloke on Platform 5 is a megalomaniac nincompoop

Even with everything allocated as it should be Reading/Weybridge services are still roughly 3 x 450 for every 4 x 701. Depending on what time of day and where you'll often see either all 450s or all 701s on Reading services.

SWR has long been a relative island of sanity in the Yellow Line Terror. Hope this isn't changing and that Mr AYLS is an isolated example.

My biggest question is how does he keep his voice shouting like that all day? It’s quite a feat. He should try being a boxing match announcer.

Its quite interesting that some of the 701 fleet both /0 and /5 series are still being "tested" but the new build 345, number 071 is in traffic already.
I think the differnce is that
  • 345071 was built, tested, released, accepted, and entered customer service
  • 701xxx were built, tested, released, put into store for forever, { woken up, repaired, updated, tested, found to still be defective, put back into store } woken up, re-tested, re-released, moved around, and in most cases, eventually accepted and entered customer service

hilarious but sadly very true

Of course if everyone remained behind the yellow line then announcements would no longer be required. It's summer, silly season and I am finding that almost every station has someone the wrong side of the line. Apparently it's a challenge for the traveling public.

So essentially, the progress with 345071 is a good sign that Alstom have got to grips with the issues at Litchurch Lane that afflicted Bombardier and their predecessors?

Just no concept of what suddenly stepping towards the platform edge might do to a driver's nerves! Part of the reason the yellow peril is there.

May be the industry should do a TV (NR level crossings style) educational piece, as seen from a cab, with people surging forward towards the platform edge, as the train approaches and the possible implications of someone falling (or jumping) in to the mix? Not that the latter would be shown, but a suggestion of that scenario none the less.

As someone who is a yellow line shouter, (albeit not as far up as CLJ) I sympathise with you. I shouldn't have to shout nor do I want to, but I'd rather be seen to be keeping people safe should something happen and it was found on that occasion I wasn't shouting.

On the subject of less 701s working the actual beef of the route, it is a shame. They have a knack of hoovering up a lot of people in a very short time, something the 450s tend not to be able to do
