Dukinfield Central railway station.

What were the train services that called at this station in the years prior to its closure?

I have had a look at the 1949 LMR public timetable and it is not in it. However, I suspect that this was because it was still an Eastern Region station and ne’er the twain shall meet. So probably, at that time, it was a shuttle from I know not where to Stalybridge.

There was a carriage & wagon works there (ex GC) so presumably workers' services.

In GC / LNER days it was just a shuttle between Guide Bridge and Stalybridge, also serving Ashton (Park Parade).

After the direct (ex LNW) 'Hooley Hill' line closed in 1950 BR routed Stockport - Stalybridge services this way, with most calling at Dukinfield C until it closed in 1959.

The September 1955 Bradshaw has both LM and E region timetables for Dukinfield Central. They seem to be heavily focused on Guide Bridge-Stalybridge shuttles but with some through workings to Stockport. They show the same calls in different layouts. Without getting too bogged down on SX, SO and FSX, about 15 calls in each direction. (None on Sundays.)

Most of the Guide Bridge - Stalybridge shuttles are actually through services from Stockport apart from a few peak hour extras. Bradshaw is stuck in its pre-nationalisation layout - the June 1955 LM timetable (available for free on 'Timetable World' ) gives a better picture. BR - for once - was able to do a sensible rationalisation shortly after nationalisation by combining the former LMS and LNER services.

As an aside, some remnants of the platform are still visible at Dukinfield Central where they projected out over the canal.

It is a fair walk from Central to the wagon works . A better service for there would have been to re-open Dog Lane station (closed 1850s?) on the Sheffield line!. The works is about the same crow flying distance from Duki Central as Guide Bridge.
