Yes, I don't use buses much any more and it keeps happening. The reader by the door not working for tap out and then having to use the drivers ticketer machine seems to be a major cause.
Central Connect and Konect Bus before them at least show journeys in their app and were relatively helpful in refunding (although haven't fixed the faulty readers on some of the buses).
First are useless (and I like their service in Norwich) with the app being even less than useless and the refund process being as slow and painful as they could possibly make it.

Agreed.
Just returned from a trip to The Netherlands which I visit fairly regularly. I cancelled my OV Chipkaart this time, instead using contactless. I registered my UK credit card on the OV Pay app which took about 1 minute and then had instantaneous statement of journeys and fares charged, including when I had hit the fare cap. This covered bus, tram and train. The latter two are franchised but of course have to use the national system.
I appreciate due to our train fare structures it isn't as simple here but really ours is ludicrous in comparison.

The industry really needs to standardise on one way to collect fares, these differences lead to customer confusion and then having a lack of faith in the system.
Agreed.
