I take it, we are heading for the 13th September? I take it more moving deck chairs around, along with new Midlothian tenders. I truly HOPES there is proper improvement in West Lothian.

To give them thier dues they are a bit better at publishing Scottish stuff but your right your sometimes faster looking up N&P two weeks later.

476 worked a short 1 (Seafield to Waverley) followed by a short 16 (Commercial Street to Waverley) this morning. I assume this is for Tram cover, which is nice to see.

If the 13th September is indeed the start date, the registrations would need to have been submitted no later than 2nd August i.e. 6 weeks beforehand. It regularly takes the staff at the Leeds office (of the Traffic Commissioners) weeks to process registrations, so don't hold your breath waiting for them to appear on their website!!

Lothian tend to have the details around 28 days before hand on its website, so it could will be a race to the finish to see what appears first, Vosa or the Lothian own website :D

My pet peeve again - 942 running this morning with an absolutely goosed destination display - so faded as to be unreadable.

I wouldn't have let it leave the garage like that!

If you were a passenger waiting for the bus, would you rather have a faded destination display, or no bus at all?

I wonder why they did away with them? they were ideal helpers, i miss the days of the old rolling blinds, and the via points.

Lothian should look to upgrading the destination boards, something like McGills used to have, scrolling destinations.

Tramboards would be a great help, but Lothian management did away with them and then the 'Via' polnts screen so I'd say there's no chance of them meking a come-back. However, I agree that a bus with a faded screen is better than no bus at all.

Sheet of paper, marker pen, sticky tape - job done. I recall a Longstone roller-display single deck regularly in service like this a few years back.

In this case maybe 942's display seems OK in the depot darkness but isn't so legible in bright sunlight.

942 (and 949, and 503, 504, 506...) have had faded desto screens for ages. The problem is it's a little bit darker in the depot so during the first use check, it looks to be working properly, however once in sunlight it is unreadable. It's also not something Control will take a bus off the road for, so it gets passed on to engineering at the end of the night, when it's dark, screen looks ok in the dark, bus gets returned to the garage and the cycle continues.

Is it an issue with the Hanover settings? I think I read that the system dims the screens where possible as an energy saving feature, I'm wondering if something has gone wrong there where the system should have brightened the screens but hasn't?

I dont think replying to an issue with"I would rather x than no bus" is an effective nor good way to look at an issue.
The universal fact here is that its a basic condition that a bus running in this context is better than anything else and that it should not undermine other issues such as the destination display screen not being very visible, 172 is also a vehilce that has this issue and despite it being better than no bus I do not think the issue should be sweeped under the rug over the fact its in service and its better than nothing.
A passenger should not be expected to be grateful and notice no issues because of of a vehicle running instead of nothing.

Lothian have a dedicated team of individuals (IID) that have the purpose of maintaining information such as timetables, next stop data and destination displays, I trust that they will eventually see to these issues but are probably busy right now with the diversions and upcoming service change.

Interestingly while it’s a problem on some older vehicles, a few of the BZLs are like this on their rear screens.

It almost feels like someone had accidentally turned down a contrast/brightness dial rather than a fault as such!

The X27 and X28 are very poor.

I like the LED screens but with my eyesight I struggle when they're badly faded. I once flagged it to a driver but he couldn't have cared less - he said that the screen must be fine or else they wouldn't have let the bus out of the depot. The fact that passengers could hardly see the destination was not an issue.
