165134 + 165133 + 165131 are on their way to Oxford on 1N52 0714 Bristol Temple Meads to Oxford to replace the three weekend loan units 165128 + 165118 + 165123 that did not return yesterday due to an incident at Keynsham. Prior to that incident, 165137 was allocated to return instead of 165118 but that did not happen either.

Thought that given the prevailing unit availability sending three sets to Oxford was a bit profligate. That explains it.

Did 165120 ever make it to Wolverton yesterday? It got allocated and the path was activated but isn't showing that it ran. I'd assume it didn't run as 165102's return to SPM got cancelled

It looks like 165120 is still at Reading and is allocated to the Marlow Bourne End diagram today

As expected the 'foreign' 2-car 165s were all repatriated at the weekend with 165131,133,134 moving West and 165118,123,128 moving East

165120 is currently en route to Wolverton on 5Q66 if anyone's interested. Photographed here at Slough - apologies for the terrible shot!

Thank you for this information. It helps to explain why Reading is so short of 165s today as they also have to supply an extra 2-car for the first day of Henley Regatta. 165102 is on its way to Reading from Wolverton, but until it arrives Reading has 22 units for 21 diagrams.

165102 is an Exeter/Bristol based unit, so it's odd that it's going to Reading instead

If it didn't it would leave Reading very short. My guess is that it will stay at Reading temporarily until 165121 returns from Doncaster. I think that 165121 is the very last GWR turbo to go to Doncaster, so nothing should be leaving GWR to replace it. But that is only my guess though!

Not complaining. Seven turbos on the "Devon Metro" today. 165104, 166207/219/216/205 Paignton-Exmouth. 166203/218 Barnstaple. Only five 150s and a 2 car 158 used. Probably to allow the 150s to shadow 175s

I think that the current problem with 150s relates principally to how many are stopped relating to overhauls;

150202 C4 at St Philips Marsh (last in passenger service 19.05.26)
150234 returned from C6 at Wolverton 07.07.26 but not yet accepted in to service (last in passenger service 01.02.26)
150248 C6 at Wolverton (last in passenger use 23.04.26)
150263 C6 at Wolverton (last in passenger use 07.07.26)

on top of which 150261 had an altercation with a Range Rover at Calstock yesterday.

That leaves 15 units for 16 diagrams, which is a challenge even before any that may be stopped for routine maintenance. The one LTP 175 diagram that has been STP'd to a 150 since the May t/t change was cancelled in its entirety today.

Add into the mix multiple unit restrictions on at least 3 units and the sight isnt pretty

The 150 fleet has propped up the rest of the West fleet for the past five years or so, the cracks are now starting to show!

Saturday and eight turbos down here. 4 on Paignton-Exmouth; there is one shortform 150. 2 each on Okehampton and Barnstaple. In Cornwall one 150 cancelation at Falmouth.
175 availability is slowly improving; ie 6 or 7 trains out of 16 so they should be able to take the pressure off the 150s although probably not to the end of August.

Looks like there is a 166 on the Henley service today, I'll be back with a number if that's the case. 216 as below.

Planned swap for the week. 166216 being in Reading for the week (working Reading diagrams) with 165110 in Bristol for the week (working Bristol diagrams)

All the while it’s on a week of Reading diagrams, thus being treated in common with the 3-165s, it’s not much different to a 3-165 ending up on the service as they often do.
Just surprised as North Downs would be a more logical place to send it

Guess it's diagram that starts and finishes at Reading to keep the 166 contained

Only if you look at it's slightly improved interior and decide to isolate it from the common pool of 3-165 on that basis alone, which would likely be more operationally complex.

Though I agree I'd much rather a 166 myself, and indeed I used to take 166s with my family from North Camp to Gatwick Airport. In the mid 2010s it was of course quite rare to get a 165 on the service then.

Wdym?

North Downs and Reading to Basingstoke are the ones booked for 3 car 165s?

Yes but if they’re short of 2-165s they’ve clearly chosen a 3 car at random to cover. I thought you were suggesting they should have got a 3-165 to cover instead so that the 166 could be saved for the NDL
