I'm getting a weird result, whichever platform I'm buying on. I will be flying into Gatwick about 19:45, then taking the train (with luggage) to King's Cross for a late evening train out of King's Cross (if a connection misses, we prefer to wait at King's Cross rather than Stevenage; my wife's view of cl. 700 seats is also relevant). For some reason, neither the forum site nor any others, will give me a sensible route with connections.

Given the journey, we'll be on Super Off Peak singles anyway, but the journey planning element just doesn't make sense.

I was just checking if the Preston-Glasgow Off-Peak Day return was valid via Kilmarnock (I thought it was, just wanted to be sure) and the way out routed fine, but it looks like the way back has decided to go via Whitehaven instead of just connecting off the 18:38 arrival to the 18:46 Avanti Southbound (which fits the 8 min Minimum connection time perfectly, but even if it didn't I'd expect it to wait for the next direct train instead of going on a rail replacement bus), any clue why it's doing this?

Don't forget that you can use the rear 1st class section on 700s with a standard class ticket. My wife and I always do that and its tolerable.

Unfortunately, we're not mindreaders, so it would be very helpful to know what date you're travelling in order to provide an answer!

I can't explain the behaviour, and disabling buses seems to cause even more problems, but adding separate via points for out and return and adding a stop/change at Oxenholme seems to offer the itinerary.

It's very bizarre.

Fair comment! It’s Monday 7th September.

Looking at the results, it seems to be related to the treatment of London connection times, but the results are just weird.

I'm guessing you want to get at Thameslink Gatwick to St Pancras and then walk to Kings Cross? I tried tickets.railforums.co.uk, specifying via Kings Cross. The site initially showed me Gatwick Airport to Victoria then tube to Kings Cross, which I think is because the site thinks that's the quickest route. I tried to force it not to do that by also specifying via London Bridge, and that showed up as getting a Thameslink Gatwick to Finsbury Park and then a train from Finsbury Park to Kings Cross. I suspect it's doing that because it's assuming it takes a lot of time to walk from St Pancras to Kings Cross (it has to think about the slowest possible walker), and therefore thinks that the more complicated alternatives are quicker.

Assuming that's what you want, you might be better off just separately checking times Gatwick to St Pancras, and then Kings Cross to Stevenage.

Precisely this plan - and very similar results, though I didn’t get the Finsbury Park routing. I’ve purchased because I’m on an open journey and don’t want to be faffing on landing.

My question is less “why” (I guessed as much about official connection times and not treating King’s Cross and St Pancras as integrated), as “how” it is that these weird results come about.

Grantham. Desired journey Gatwick - St Pancras, King’s X - Grantham. Want to leave Gatwick asap on arrival, not be pushed into relying on a via Stevenage Thameslink service when the wait at King’s Cross is far more acceptable

Adding change points of St Pancras and King's Cross should do the trick:

Thank you. I hadn't thought of both of those - there's another (southbound) journey that I periodically book where forcing a change at King's Cross ensures the connection is there rather than Stevenage (and that's one where I would personally change at Stevenage but the person I'm booking for absolutely won't!).

Contact the help shown on the ticket / confirmation email etc.

Direct contact will most likely be quicker than indirect via a forum.

It's still usually monitored by people intermittently, and most urgent queries sent in over a weekend will still be looked at on a "best effort" basis.

I'm not connected with the forum's ticketing site but that doesn't look like you've been charged twice.

Ultimately, what counts is what ends up on the statement as a confirmed transcation. Not what is listed as pending.

Anyone else unable to buy tickets this morning?
I've tried BRFares, the trainsplit app and the forum site and all of them are failing, just getting "An error occurred while processing your card. Try again."

Not sure if it's just me or if it's a wider thing.

Between 05:49 and 06:42 there were widespread failures for Mastercard payments, as reported by our payment provider.

This was an upstream issue with Mastercard themselves and an issue outside of Raileasy and Stripe.

For the folks who prefer the classic interface...

https://tickets-classic.railforums.co.uk/ (and https://classic.trainsplit.com/) have been migrated to a new technical stack and updated to the latest version of the framework they use today.

There should not be any change to the experience beyond things loading a bit more quickly, and updates being a bit easier on Raileasy's side. Do get in touch with support if you run into any problems.

I don't (knowingly) have plusbus selected here.

If it helps it's for CUP to ABD, 1 adult, 1 child with a F&F Railcard, outbound Friday 25th Sept return Sunday 27th Sept.
