Hey all, looking for some insight into how doors are controlled (excluding DOO services) and how they vary across different rolling stock! Always been curious about how different trains have different door operation and dispatch procedures.

Currently I know the following:
- Class 150, 153, 155, 156, 158, 159, 170, 197 are opened and closed by the guard
- Class 165, 166, 800, 802 are opened by the driver and closed by the guard
- Class 220, 221 are opened by the driver and closed by the driver (after receiving the guard's 1-2 buzz)

If anyone could provide insight into door operations for the following trains that'd be appreciated!
- 43 (with Mk3 power-sliding doors)
- 57 (with Mk3 GWR sleeper coaches)
- 68 (with Mk5a coaches)
- 91 (with Mk4 coaches)

As far as I know, these are always Driver Only Operated. A TTI (Travelling Ticket Inspector) may be present, but they are not a Guard

As above, DOO.

Again, I believe they are Driver Only Operated, with an OBM (On Board Manager) present for customer assistance, checking/issuing tickets, but not involved in the operation of the train.

I'm sure there are other examples. Edit: 378s for a start, but I'll leave the rest to others!

455s are no longer in service.

Both these are guard open/guard close. There are no door controls in the cab.

385s are DOCCO - driver open, conductor close operation in ScotRail.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

The HSTs class 43s in ScotRail have sliding doors and are fully operated by the guard.

I'm sure that they are DOO on the old Strathclyde DOO routes (e.g. their booked Inverclyde turns).

Similarly, 380s are DOO on all services except East Kilbride and Barrhead.

Lumo 222s have been modified for DOO with external cameras attached to the bodywork.
You’re absolutely right - I forgot that!

Chiltern 165 & 168 are open by driver, closed by driver after receiving bell/buzzer from guard but only as far as/from Banbury then it is DOO
Class 68 & Mk5 coaches are guard open and close

As above, DOO.
This tallies with my regular travels with all 3 classes on the Argyle & North Clyde Lines.

745 and 755 are DOO, unless the cameras fail, in which case it is driver open, guard close

231/756s are, at the moment, guard open/ guard close.

398s are DDO (Driver Door Operation) unless in degraded, then it’s FCDO (Full Conductor Door Operation).

The door protocol for the 398s will then pass onto the 231s & 756s in the future.

That's south of Banbury as it was an NSE agreement to DOO when the Turbos replaced the slam door sets. That also covered Great Western 165s and 166s on the London area services which are or were mostly DOO as well. If you see big mirrors on the platforms, that is or was a clue. I think the more modern stock, 345s and 387s have cameras.

I know, I drive them, even our 'modern' trains don't have cameras

Class 730 - Guard open/close (although these units were made for DOO), guard operating panels had to be put into them.

Class 196 - Guard open/close, same story as the Class 730.
