Tonbridge + Travelcard

Hi all,

Hope you’re all well.

I’d be very grateful if you could confirm that my proposed itinerary is both the cheapest option, and valid. Many thanks in advance.

Sat 1st Aug
Tonbridge to London Bridge, and back
Will use multiple tubes and buses in London
Network Railcard

I intend to buy a £6.85 return from TON to Boundary Zone 6, and an £11 Travelcard, total £17.85.

P.S. As an aside, is there any reason why somebody would choose an Anytime Day Travelcard on a Saturday ? If not why is it offered ? Ta.

If you’re going via Redhill it’s going to be cheaper to buy an Off Peak Day Travelcard routed via Redhill, £16.45.

There isn’t any benefit to it no, but retailers have to offer the more expensive tickets as well. They automatically select the cheaper tickets for you of course.

Yes, a good question as to how have Southeastern managed to get their pricing 'wrong' such that a combination of the boundary ticket and the in-boundary travelcard is less than the £19.15 cost of the out-boundary travelcard.

Also, in that area, there is a fare from Tonbridge to Knockholt 'via Sevenoaks' which is more expensive than the unrouted fare. The 'via Sevenoaks' fare to Knockholt is closer to the boundary fare implied by the outboundary travelcard pricing.

Probably partly a result of increasing the entire outboundary Travelcard price by an extra 3% when there was that little 'disagreement' between TfL and RDG a few years ago. By contrast the Boundary Zone fare won't have increased by the extra 3%.

If you look at BR Fares expert mode you'll see the mess of fares that exist for Tonbridge to Knockholt. I think SE intend for the more expensive unrouted fares to be the ones that are charged, and for the "via Sevenoaks" fares to be charged for travel to stations such as St Mary Cray.

It’s a normal split and so counts as normal journey
