Am I right in thinking it's the pool who usually drive the test and engineering trains?
Massive thank you to everyone involved in running this, it was a fantastic event, and your efforts are much appreciated. It was particularly enjoyable to see how many members of the public were clearly surprised and reaching for their phones when they saw us.
I found the event to be very enjoyable, I rode Siddons and the 38ts on the Saturday and spent most of the Sunday getting photos of them in various locations. Many thanks to those who arranged the event.

BTW I know it wasnt Sarah Siddons but one of her classmates was at the 1926 Wembley Exhibition - where my father must have seen her along with Pendennis Castle and Flying Scotsman so how about a 'Wembley Reunion'?

Test Crew specifically - so things like stock moves, sandite/rail adhesion trains and, at the moment, lots of 24TS testing. They also generally cover things like rail grinder transit moves.
'Proper' engineering trains - that is those with battery locomotives etc. - still come under Transplant, a separate department.

No.15 was exhibited at The British Empire Exhibition in 1924, later named “Wembley 1924”
Just to add my thanks to those involved. It's good to be able to do a Nice Thing on the railway; it increasingly requires a lot of stars to align and the effort and enthusiasm is something we should be proud of. A weekend celebrating some outstanding British transport heritage on an operational public railway is not to be missed!
Also - I've done a couple of these heritage events now and it attracts a crowd well beyond the usual basher. Well done to those marketing it and reaching into the cultural mainstream.

This thread has been a super read - many thanks to all the contributors here; and a big kudos to @bluegoblin7 for your posts, which are a fascinating insight into "keeping it all on the rails" (so to speak).
I wasn't able to join this event (my location and some other commitments prohibitive) but I fondly remember travelling on and photographing "Steam On The Met" end-May events in the mid-1990s; the highlight (for me) being the morning parallel steam running northward from Harrow-on-the-Hill to Moor Park.
I am under no illusion at the level of planning and operational execution of "SotM"; and I well imagine last weekend's event was similar.

As someone who spent the weekend as a 'car steward' I will pass on the thanks from those members of this Forum to my colleagues. Without wishing to name anybody personally it should also be recognised the hard work and planning undertaken by the TFL Principal Engineering lead Technical services and his team, the Head of the London Transport Museum Heritage Rail Operations and the support from all TFL staff including @bluegoblin7 to have made it a great event.

I would like to add from a former Coach Steward on the Steam on The Met that the heritage trips are great events, although hard work very rewarding in seeing how people are enjoying the journeys. I know there were no kettles on the trips but the 38 stock still makes for an interesting day.

My sons flatmates - mid 20's no interest in that sort of thing rather fancied the idea of a trip on the 38 stock and would probably have gone of they hadnt been working - but they might come next time
