Taunton to Gatwick Airport

I have a couple of queries.

1. I vaguely remember there was some special ticket from Taunton to Gatwick Airport sold by GWR. I can't find anything about it, presume it isn't available now, or maybe my memory is wrong, but can anyone remember such a ticket (I think it was some sort of flexi return but quite cheap).

2. Regardless of the above, I want to travel from Taunton to Gatwick return ( all in off peak hours ), avoiding London, i.e. to Reading then via Guildford (which is also the cheapest route), but I want to return from Gatwick via Worthing then via Barnham route back to Westbury, then Taunton.
I've looked at tickets to stations such as Haywards Heath or Balcombe, which could allow a flexible return to cover this journey plan, perhaps with a change of route excess, but wonder if anyone has any thoughts on the cheapest way to do this using flexible tickets? Thanks

Is the Gatwick to Worthing to Southampton to Westbury to Taunton journey intended to be in one go or involve travelling over multiple days?

Gatwick Flyaway - only valid via the North Downs Line - for multiple travellers - still available.

The OP Day Single from Gatwick to Southampton via Three Bridges is £21. I don't see you being able to trim much off that. I cannot find a through fare to Taunton via that route. The OP single onwards via Romsey is £46 and while it seems possible to save a few quid by splits you'd lose the flexibility for maybe a gain of £5-£8. Call it £67 in all.

If it's overnight you need the gat-soton Anytime Single at £22 that allows BoJ (but check this)

How long is the break between outward and return journeys?
