What’s the best ticket for this journey?

I’m travelling from London to Durham on Tuesday 28th but I plan to break my Journey at Newark to visit an attraction in the village of Tuxford, I then plan to recommence my journey at Retford, am I better off getting advances? I know my departure time from Kings Cross but not from Retford…

With the super off peak can I get on a train at Retford at any time? The restriction code makes it unclear

No. You can only get on trains which depart London Terminals (except as shown below) after 02:59 and before 09:06 and after 14:59 and before 18:59 (18:15 on Fridays).

So the question at Retford is "what time did my train leave London?"

The other thing to bear in mind is that LNER often sell "Advance" tickets very last minute (think 10 min before departure) and the Super off-peak/Anytime tickets don't sell out (despite what LNER sometimes like to pretend).

So, potentially it would be possible to get advances more last minute (when you are sure about which train(s)). It would probably be more expensive than booking further ahead, but possibly cheaper than Super off-peak/Anytime (and if not, you could always buy the Super off-peak/Anytime then-as above they *CAN'T* sell out).

I know what you meant but it's the other way round. Ticket is not valid for trains departing London at those times.

The train needs to have departed London no earlier than 09:06 and not between 15:00 and 18:58 inclusive.

Yes my apologies, forgot I was pasting from the restriction!

Get an Advance to Newark and an Off Peak Single from Retford to Durham, then you have the flexibility you need and don't have to worry about odd restrictions from Retford as it is a simple 'not until 09:30'.
