Hi-apologies if there is somewhere more appropriate for this, but I couldn't see it as a newbie.

Anyway how do we add a signature/footer to our posts? I found the option to display or hide them but not how to add one

I'm wondering if the Admins have disabled the ability to add signatures as it's not where I'm pretty sure I remember it being, under your account details.

We used to have fairly widespread signatures, but now they've been changed so that there are vastly updated rules surrounding them which are here, based on which I think they have to be sorted out by an admin. As Trackman says, send them a message via the "Contact us" feature and I'm sure they won't bite :)

I believe signatures have been turned off although am happy to be corrected.

Guidance relating to signatures is likely to be legacy.

Hello! At a recent staff meeting we took the decision to disable signatures - a full announcement will follow next week (please bear in mind we're all volunteers!) but yes, essentially making sure they were meeting our requirements for accessibility amongst other things, plus the fact most mobile users already had them hidden anyway (the theme hides them on mobile devices by default), made us decide that disabling them entirely, at least on a trial basis, was the easiest way forward.

Thanks, that makes sense. I get being volunteers (I am as well). I would have liked to put something to say just my opinion/not professional advice but I totally get turning them off. I obviously joined at just the wrong time to get the enable/disable option but not the add myself one before its all sorted

Many members, myself included, used the signature strip to put a disclaimer.; in that anything that we posted was our opinion and not our employers. In the modern railway industry with its social media policies I feel it is important to state this.

Perhaps a medium ground would be a standard disclaimer/disclaimers for those who want to make sure they don't fall foul of social media policies.

Policing for accessibility and appropriateness seems like the perfect job for an LLM, if you ask me

Hi - not sure where to post this! I wondered if the forum was having technical issues? I noticed that my 'Show people's signatures with their messages' preference had been turned off. I quite like seeing what everyone puts in here! It's also useful to see those who, like me, pop their pronouns in there - something very important and inoffensive. Anyway, that's nicely turned back on. 8-)

It’s been discussed here. A Moderator decision it seems although we are still waiting for the official announcement as to why.

It seems as though members cannot edit signatures now either. Perhaps @yorkie could care to explain what's going on?

Good. A facility that is an annoyance on every message board that I have frequented.

Largely used by people with no understanding that their favourite quote, witticism, agenda, political viewpoint, inappropriate personal fact and assorted other nonsense is not of interest to the majority of the membership and repeated viewing is far more likely to result in active dislike of the contents and it's writer.

And that is why there was an option to turn off viewing them so that people who thought this could opt out without needlessly removing the facility from others who enjoyed it or found it useful
