It was running slow again this morning and now it's gone completely. Could this be the begining of the end? I hope not.

I’m sure that they’ll get it sorted. Sometimes these things can take a while though unfortunately.

I think it’s probably best to just bear with them for now and wait until they get on top of whatever’s been happening.

I've just logged in, and my access is okay - albeit that it is still "jumping about" on the screen but I can live with that if I have to!

I've also checked to see whether there's any explanation of what is causing the problems, and there isn't anything.

I don't know if it's just me, but Nat Pres suddenly seems much faster and more responsive, with pages (even with images) loading instantly, as if it's been moved to some new, better infrastructure.

Looks like reports of its death were premature!

Not for everyone (so far). Mixed performance for me about 1800 today with some stalling but some clicks going straight through.

Has anyone else been having trouble accessing the site, I'm getting a Bad Error 400 message when trying to access the site.

Try clearing cookies for this site if you can.
I have experienced this before, on Nat Pres.

There must be some cookie that occasionally gets set too large, or slowly grows over time.
It could be the fault of some tracking script such as Analytics, rather than the forum software itself.

I was unable to access NP earlier, but it now seems to be back.

Just as a general thought, I find that RUKF is the fastest website to load out of the dozens of random websites I regularly use, whereas NP is the slowest out of any. RUKF will load on mobile data pretty fast in places I didn't think I had a single bit of signal. That's not a criticism of anyone or anything, but it has always interested me given the forum software seems somewhat similar.

It wouldn't be a great loss! :D
There is always a risk especially when the owner's business model is based on advertising revenue paying for the running costs of the site, that one day the plug might be pulled, if the revenue stream dries up.

It will be a shame if National preservation were to fail, Iwill admit I have issues with certain members, but it does serve a need especially some more in-depth of the preservation movement, as with every organisation, you get good and bad apples.

I've only been able to get on it by using private browsing for about 6 weeks now. Tried clearing hte cookies but not willing to clear my whole browser cache as there are Pws saved that I don't think I'd ever be able to remember! It does always come up with an internal server error though,.

You don’t need to delete your whole browsing cache. If you let me know which browser you are using, I can guide you with the right steps if you are not sure how to do this but you need to delete the website data for specifically Nat Pres which should cure your issue but preserve the passwords etc of all the other websites etc. if you are worried you don’t know your Nat Pres one just drop me a message and I can always change it for you to get back in and you can then change it to one of your choosing.

I generally manage to log in quite successfully, and I've just done so without a problem.

What I do have a problem with is that it keeps "hopping around" rather than staying consistently on the page that I'm reading (or trying to read). This often happens when I change from topic to topic; it never happens on any other discussion forum!

NP is fine for me this morning.

That depends on your interests. For me, it is very informative for steam (and some other) main line running background information. If steam is not your thing, then it will be of limited interest I expect.

I am a former member of Natpress, and I wonder whilst on here people are happy to talk about both sites, My own person experience was that they are less willing to discuss what some see as an competitor, some were even hostile about it,

I will agree, i do wish this forum had more information to do with Steam, but its down to people to include it, there's nothing, as far as i can see to prevent anyone posting if they so wish, for example tour information whats running, whats the engine timings etc, ,

No shortage of kettle chat here. One thread is currently discussing which loco Tangmere Railways West Coast would be using.

I use both sites and it's very much 'horses for courses'.
This site tends to be good for modern railway discussion (fares, policy, NR infrastructure etc), while NatPres is better for info about heritage railways, steam tours, individual steam locos etc.

There's definitely room in this town for both of them without the need for conflict.

Back to the original topic, it has been much more reliable for me over the last couple of weeks.

Martin, that isn’t true at all. There is no rivalry and Nat Pres, Rail Forums and WNXX aren’t competitors but rather complement each other.

We actually have good relationships and it’s absolutely fine to discuss either of the other forums on Nat Pres. A good example is when the server issue were plaguing the forums, we had a very kind and much appreciated offer of help from the Rail forums team and we would do the same.

Another example is during the server issues, as well as thanking the Rail forums team for their offer of help, I’ suggested to the members it’s worth joining here as it’s a great forum. Similarly we have regular contact with the WNXX team.

At the end of the day, while we are in the same business, there is no rivalry and there is room for all three, each have their strong areas of discussion which together combines into a wonderful resource which benefits the wider community - we are all in it together, so please don’t paint a picture of some kind of rivalry as it isn’t true.

Sorry Martin but that is incorrect and there is no hostility to any forum whether its here , WNXX or anywhere else

Each forum supports a different area of enthusiasts interest and cross over is to be expected and encouraged

As I said, It was only my own view, based on what some members said, to me, at the time, some people can be very close minded, its human nature, I joined even before it was nat press, when Steam dreams ran it, how long ago was that? in that time, people came, people left, then Glyn took what remained, and started National Preservation, and for a while the site flourished, Sadly Glynn is no longer with us,

we each find our own home and parish that suits us and some forums are just not for us

Glynn's departure was heart breakingly sad

Stream Dreams never had any involvement at all. What actually happened was Steam Dreams had their own forum, had a legal scare arising from it and then Glyn decided to start his own forum and Nat Pres was born.

As you say sadly he passed away but is very much missed.

A lot of the early members came over from the Steam Dreams forum, it was that closing that lead to Glyn starting National Preservation, Whilst it may not have been steam dreams official forum, it was hosted on their web site, if my memory serves me right?

Agreed. I'd also observe that it's generally not good form to discuss what goes on in one forum on another - they each serve their own constituencies, and have their own foibles. And as a mod at WNXX, I occasionally need to enforce that policy.
