Very glad to be having these 701s on the New Guildford line in this heatwave, the air conditioning is very good (compared to the 450s we get occasionally).

However the WiFi on the 701s does seem to be very hit and miss, I'd say around 50% of the time I can connect to the network but it doesn't load the login prompt to allow me to connect to the Internet. This is annoying as a lot of the route has poor 5G signal.

55 in passenger service now, 2 remain in commissioning and 3 on training duties.

029 seems to be taking an awfully long time. I had it down to beat 004 into traffic but alas not!

003 might jump 029 as well. It was planned to go to Clapham on Friday though didn't make the trip in the end. Overall still seems it will be a struggle to run all 701 diagrams as planned with some replacements even on a Sunday.

On another note it looks like the next 701 move from Bicester to Wimbledon might be on Tuesday:

That surprised me. Thought they'd wait till Monday. Quite brave outberthing it on the first day but it may have something to do with the current shortage.

It has not yet been accepted by the operator and is the only one of the 60 in that situation now. 015/024/028 are all on long-term training duty at the moment so I suspect 003 will likely be the next one to be introduced.

What could be delaying to such a degree 029’s acceptance by SWR?

Although I am told 019 should not actually be in service... it's only registered for trial running on the system.

One just taken out of service at Ashtead. Windows smashed, suspected slingshot or air rifle in the Epsom/Ewell area. Didn't get the unit number unfortunately.

Edit: 701021 as the 2D59 19:32 London Waterloo to Guildford. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:L81089/2026-07-12#allox_id=0
It is back in service after running ECS to Guildford, as 2D70 21:20 Guildford - Waterloo. Three windows panels on three separate coaches shot with air rifles between Ewell West and Epsom.

I doubt much will happen as I hear it's the external panels that are affected. Inside it's okay I've been told, so probably just needs a tape job and it'll remain in service I think.

They turfed us all out at Ashtead, the guard (who was excellent) offered to cordon off the affected coaches but I think without tape on the windows Fleet/Control probably weren't happy. I guess maybe they managed to tape it up at Guildford?

I don't know how big a job replacing windows is, but I guess if they can tape it up then it won't be -1 on the number of units out and about?

Quite a few parts have been robbed so it isn't really in a fit state. There must be a clause in the contract about it for acceptance although I am not really in the know for the exact terms.

Can't say I'm aware of that so that is new to me.

From what I know there appears to be a mix-up over the original report as it didn't need to be taken out of service for outer panes only, as they just need taping up asap. Once it became clear exactly what the situation was it was put back in service.

Is that the definite location? Not the more usual between Epsom and Ashtead where the line runs across the Common? I'd have thought they'd have tipped it out at Epsom if it happened prior to there - and there's hardly any open space between Ewell West and Epsom?

Path for the locomotive(s) to then return light to Bicester.
Perhaps another delivery or a move to Derby LL (nothing showing via RTT yet).

0V71 Derby RTC to Bicester MOD today showing as cancelled.

Unusual for 0V71 to be cancelled as it was manually activated.

However there is now a VSTP light loco 0J71 from Soho to Bicester later today (13/07/2026). Manually activated probably at the same time it was entered and 0V71 was cancelled (just before departure). Plenty of time of course for 0J71 to be cancelled though !.

I am wondering what loco the move tomorrow will bring from Bicester to Wimbedon, Here is that actual 5Q87 move.

EDIT 12:30

The loco is probably whatever arrived at Soho from Derby LL on this ECS.

EDIT above was 37510 + 730202.

004 is in service. Saw it at Ascot just after 1pm whilst I was waiting for the Class 31 and 4-Vep to come through on their trip back to Strawberry Hill

Typical.

Interesting reason - "This service was cancelled due to the train being a very short term planned (VSTP) service (PN).".

Perhaps another path will be entered later, it has until 09:46 tomorrow morning to be needed there. Anyway no saying a 701 at Bicester is ready to talk to the loco anyway !.

The arrival at Soho 5Q65 from Derby LL was 37510 dragging 730202 according to @55002. So a 93 is/was not likely but at least I have another 730/2 to go out for !.
