As on so many occasions, it seems, from absolute calm to chaos within minutes. I'll not detail what was happening at York towards Leeds, but all credit to the driver and replacement guard on 1B43 York to Blackpool North which terminated at Leeds. The driver kept everyone informed with as much humour as was possible given the potentially inflammatory situation with the normal York - Leeds drinkers alongside returning race goers.
The funny thing is that when claiming on delay repay it turns out that the train I was definitely on, and definitely ran, was cancelled at York. In fact it was very late and terminated at Leeds. So I put over an hour as the delay. It will be interesting to see what any other sources of train times give as the 'delay'on a service which didn't supposedly run!
But overall this type of thing has happened far too often when we're coming home from a day out. Halifax, Nottingham. York... it never seems to end. But keep up with those improvements that shut services down in the name of progress eh?
I'm very grouchy, as you can tell, as I was due to go to a friends's house and watch the match but by the time we got a taxi from Leeds it was too damned late.
