Quite a few TFW services cancelled today including services on Conwy Valley, Ebbw Vale to Newport, Wrexham to Chester and some Heart of Wales to name a few.
Some of this is due to 'more trains than usual needing repairs' but also due to the heat.
Also read something about a speed restriction on the aberdare line due to hot track..
Yes, every other train to Aberdare was being terminated at Fernhill. As usual the communication of this fact was poor, confusing, misleading etc etc.
I got on a train at Danescourt which was showing Aberdare as the destination and the app was still showing it as going all the way to Aberdare. I did notice that the train an hour later was being advertised as Fernhill so I knew something might be up. When I got on the train I noticed the on-train display was showing Fernhill but I've seen those wrong before so hoped for the best. The app and all the station displays were still showing Aberdare even as we left Mountain Ash. Then, the dreaded announcement as we approached Fernhill. "As previously announced [before Danescourt???] this train will terminate at Fernhill, where there is a replacement bus waiting". We all wander over to the bus stop. Nothing. 25 minutes later we all wander back to Fernhill station hoping that the next train will continue all the way, which it did.
I noticed later that although my train had still been showing in the app as running all the way to Aberdare, RTT had it terminating at Fernhill, with no intention of ever going to Aberdare, and was only showing an hourly service to Aberdare for the rest of the evening. When I later checked the app it was also showing half of the later services as cancelled, so it must have caught up in the end. I think that probably rules out Delay Repay.
I don't really understand how the station displays, on-board displays and the app can give conflicting information. You'd think the information would be coming from the same source. Obviously not.
