Greater Anglia friday departure Weekender return ticket validity Saturday after disruption

I was intending to travel today Friday the 10th from Stratford to Ipswich using one of the greater Anglia Weekender tickets. With the lineside fire this evening the ticket with the booked itenary was cancelled with no other services before end of day. Im trying to establish whether this ticket is valid for travel tomorrow, Saturday. The ticket type is listed as "Weekend return Friday departure" which implies Friday validity only. The ticket is a 4W which on the national rail website mentions only Saturday validity...

I'm planning to travel in the morning of Saturday just wondering what is best to do. Delay repay this ticket and buy another one in the morning or chance it on this ticket with dubious validity(type says Friday departure only Vs the 4W code)...

Greater Anglia customer advice:
Please do not travel for the remainder of the day. We will provide further updates as soon as we can.

Please ensure you submit a delay repay claim for your journey today, and add details of any exceptional costs you have incurred to facilitate your onward travel or abandoned travel to the claim. Alternatively, contact the customer relations team with details and copies of receipts.

Ticket restrictions for today (Friday 10 July 2026) have been lifted and you will be able to use your ticket on trains tomorrow (Saturday 11 July 2026).

If your train is cancelled, you are allowed to take 2 before or 2 after. However, this is usually for advance singles, so may not apply to flexible tickets on the wrong day. In practice it will almost certainly be fine.

GA have made an absolute hash by getting the Friday/Saturday restrictions the wrong way round. Probably too late but travelling via Cambridge tonight may have been an option.

Greater Anglia would actually be obliged to allow the trip to happen later at the customer's convenience in most circumstances.

However, they usually only offer a few days of flexibility. Luckily for the OP, in this instance, they have specified tomorrow as one of the valid days for tickets dated today. So luckily no problems will arise with this one, and the OP is able to travel tomorrow instead.

Thanks for the replies, will do the relay repay. Didn't even consider going via Cambridge but that might have been viable, went to the pub instead.

Is this in relation to the ticket saying 'Friday travel only' with the W4 code which specifies Saturday only?
Is this ticket actually 'valid' for travel on both days. On Friday with the itenary from a proper reseller and then also on Saturday with the restriction code 4W? (I don't think that would have much success arguing with gateline staff with the ticket saying Friday only on it though ..)

Tickets have a date written on them, and validity in terms of which specific day you can use the ticket is determined by that. However, if you buy a Weekend out Friday ticket dated to a Saturday, it would be "valid" on that Saturday due to that typo.

The ticket says valid only on the 10th and the restriction code says only Saturdays, so it's potentially never valid?

There are two different ticket types: WKF for outward travel on a Friday and WKG for outward travel on a Saturday. If you look at the ticket purchase page on BR Fares it is pretty clear which is which since it won't allow you to buy one for the wrong day e.g. WKF shows as not available again until next Friday: https://www.brfares.com/!selectfare?orig=SRA&dest=IPS&rte=700&tkt=WKF
(But as others have said, the detailed ticket restriction text is wrong - the summary is correct though.)

Great to see Greater Anglia advising people to submit delay repay claims for unused tickets, having previously threatened fraud proceedings for doing the very same a few years back.
