I hope they enter service soon though. If they are reliable its a win for reliability albeit with a worse interior but I think passengers will appreciate the former over the latter. If they suffer the same issues as the current MMCs, well then we're back to square one but with buses that aren't EastRider spec.

I really hope that these issues experienced to/from Silverstone are just some teething problems and not long term. The X46 needs reliable buses desperately.
I believe they are entering service over the weekend, from what I've heard 348, 698, 705, 724-6 and 995-9 are scheduled for withdrawal over the weekend

Reliability has got to be the most important criteria. There's a lot of IF being said - let's not worry about something that hasn't yet happened ;)
What issues were experienced to/from Silverstone?

Air pressure I believe.
I was thinking of the severity. How serious was the issue with air pressure - what was it? How many vehicles affected - 1? 2? All of them? Did any fail outright and have to recovered? If so, how so - on the shuttles or to/from Silverstone?

These are hypothetical questions and I don't expect you to answer them :D It just seems odd that these vehicles are being written as being potentially unreliable a) on the basis of some vague driver chat and b) before they've entered full service. If in three months time, there's dealer spec e400mmc tragically abandoned along the A1079, then fair enough. Give them a chance.

1 bus was affected (according to a comment on EY Enthusiasts) on the journey to Silverstone and was repaired before the return journey. I'm not sure if it was unable to operate shuttle bus services.

I hope not... Why 995-999? Seems an odd choice or is that taking into account the schools going on holiday soon?
Is that on the X46? Shame to see 348 go just shy of 20 years.
For what its worth, 348 operated 26s all day today... Incidentally, it has a Moorsbus connection in that it operated the first ME1 trip from Hessle which replaced the old M13 and M14.

It will indeed be a shame if withdrawal is true for the old girl as its performed great service in nearly two decades of operation

I assume the YY26s if they do enter service from (today, as its Saturday when im writing this, albeit in very early hours) will do their X46 diagrams as planned? If so, will they fully replace the 2020 buses or will it be phased like let's say a few 20 plates and a few 26 plates on it (tbf I assume that to be more likely)

No real point writing this when I'll see for myself either way later but still thought to ask so I dont get sunburnt for no reason

I assume 995-9 are down to go with them being limited on what they can use them on. Regarding 348, 698 and 705 it's because of the age of them, they are the oldest vehicles in the front line fleet

Ah, I see...

Well, 348 is out today at the time of this post - I'd hope that it could be hidden away somewhere as a semi-depot pet and get it to 20 years with something akin to what happened with the Olympians

348 might be withdrawn either tonight or tomorrow but its having a hell of a swansong by going to York and back as we speak under one of the most experienced drivers

Last supper for it in a way, saying goodbye properly.

Now let's wait for bus reliability to go even worse when the replacements enter service

Took a special trip to York and back last night to have a run out on 348 just in case it's demise is true.....was in fine form! If tracking is to be believed, none of the new vehicles are out yet.

If buses do have souls, 348 must have had a smile as it went out in style ragging down the 1079 and arrived a minute early according to tracking data

Always thought Hodgson’s in North Yorks would be a good addition to East Yorkshire. Combination of Hodgson's and Proctor coaches with Dale and District as the surviving brand makes sense.

Yeah, let's just keep the existing unreliable vehicles and not replace them with new ones  Working on that basis, we'd still have AEC Renowns working the route!

The purchase of Proctors was very much getting the coach work (which is extensive and lucrative) with just a few bus services. Hodgsons is a bus operator and not certain that it would be worth the money.

For all the criticism on here, EY must be doing something right on their York routes - they've reported a 10.8% increase in passenger numbers on the X45/X46/X47 group over the past year, and 8.8% on their York routes generally.

That kind of increase certainly helps justify investment...

The purchase of Procters has also allowed Go Ahead to establish and expand their presence in West Yorkshire ahead of franchising in the area.

Hodgsons does have coach operations but at a smaller scale than Procters. I doubt there's a lot of money in their bus operations which are majority tendered services by local authorities, some of which used to be operated by Procters.

Credit where credits due, EY has increased the frequency of these services. There are now 4 bph between York & Pocklington Monday-Saturday day time and 2bph between York & Hull daily. During the period mentioned above, the extra X45 journeys between York & Pocklington started (September 2025) and at the same time Dunnington, Wilberfoss and Barmby Moor had bus services doubled in frequency from 1bph to 2bph Monday-Saturday.

There has also been boosts to the 12 in York between the City Centre, Fooxwood and Woodthorpe during this time, as well as the new 15 providing the only Sunday service for Woodthorpe and Bishopthorpe.

Buying up a company whose main/sole business is council contract work is a risky strategy as there's no guarantee they will hold it in the next round.
But Hodgsons do have a coach division as well – maybe not huge but at least a dozen vehicles and maybe more – and they have depots in Darlington if Go-ahead felt that was a strategically useful base for them to expand their operations in that area. It would connect their North East and North Riding networks with a continuous run of rural bus routes, which they might feel was worth doing, but I wouldn't say it was a dead cert.

Go Ahead already have Compass Royston with a depot in Stockton though. Compass already operate some Saturday Moorsbus services. If Go Ahead wanted to expand in the area wouldn't they have already started using Compass Royston's Stockton depot?

As @YorkRailFan says, they already have a local business with Compass Royston that came with the Proctors business. Buying Hodgsons doesn't give anything to Go Ahead (IMHO) that they can't already get from Compass and not certain they would feel that they need to link their NE and NR networks.
