Saw this on a Uttoxeter Forum
Is there any truth to this?
Having previously lived in Uttoxeter there is some passenger movement from Uttoxeter to Manchester which would benefit from this. Having a second Manchester to London operator would possibly bring in some revenue as with many passengers, they are happy to take longer journeys if the fare is cheaper.
Given the importance of Derby as both an interchange and a relatively large city, I know that no operator would ever miss out Derby but taking trains via the Castle Donnington freight line would probably cut a bit of time off the journey.
Grand Central to possibly Run services to Uttoxeter!
Grand Central (GC) is submitting plans for two new open access services offering alternative routes along major corridors into London.
The Arriva-owned operator is seeking seven-year access rights to operate services between Manchester Piccadilly and London St Pancras, and also from Bristol Temple Meads to London Waterloo from the May 2029 and December 2027 timetable changes respectively.
GC proposes up to five Manchester-London services calling at Stockport, Macclesfield, Congleton, Stoke‑on‑Trent, Uttoxeter, Derby, Loughborough, Leicester, Wellingborough and Luton Airport Parkway (set down/pick up only).
GC would use Class 180 diesel multiple units on Manchester services after they have been displaced on its East Cost Main Line routes by Class 820 tri-mode sets.
However, one source questioned how much capacity exists on the MML, describing the four-platform station used by East Midlands Railway at St Pancras as “woefully inadequate” and unlikely to be able to accommodate additional services.
