Passing through Broad Green yesterday I noticed that some new signage for Amco Giffen
. I think that they were contractors used recently by Merseyrail.

I wonder how long it will take the new Contractor to do all their own surveys, then submit their findings, then go through all the hassle of all those meetings before a spade goes into the ground again?

One of the few recent developments is a set of new folding signage for the subway, which appears to enable them to quickly change from Subway Open to Subway Closed. Feels like a strange thing to spend money on, not least because a quick closure of the subway would be problematic: I really don't want to turn up for my train only to find they've closed the subway and I've now got to sprint around the block to reach the other platform.

Quite correct. The only reason that I am using Broad Green again at present is because the subway is open.

Today was my first commute through Broad Green of 2026 - the fourth calendar year of these works! - and still nothing has changed. As far as I can tell, no work has taken place since they tidied up some of the signage over 6 months ago.

Surprised it took nine months until someone mucked about with the pointless new signage. For the past week, passengers have been warned in lurid pink that the subway is closed. Thankfully it's actually still open. Northern are still claiming that "the station is staffed from 06:30 until 21:00 each day" - it's a wonder those staff haven't noticed and fixed it.

Now over a year has passed since Merseyrail stepped in to save us from the "absolutely appalling" delays and ... nothing has changed.

I'm thinking of getting a large Andy Burnham poster and sticking it to the hoardings. Seems to be the only way to get Steve Rotherham to take an interest in anything.

Imagine what he will be like when Burnham gives him more money and powers, I dread to think.

You will be on camera ! Unless you dress up as steve
In theory, I'd also be caught by the staff, because Northern still claim that the station is "staffed from 06:30 until 21:00 each day to assist customers". They must have employed the World Hide And Seek Champion though, because I've never seen any staff there.
