Llanfairpwl LPG - Llandudno Junction LLJ

I am planning to take a party of 29 senior citizens on a sightseeing trip on a train between LPG and LLJ departing around 4:30pm on Friday 18th September.

I understand LPG has a short platform and we all may have to board through one or two doors.

Does anyone know how full the train might be ? Would the train be full of school children?

I would be grateful for any local knowledge and tips to enhance the trip.

Looking at just this week, the 1623 TfW departure from Llanfair PG to Llandudno Junction (continues to Manchester Airport) and the 1655 (continues to Cardiff Central) have either been 3 car or 2 car units. Can't advise as regards loadings. Anyone further assist?

Just thinking would advance warning to the train operator be advisable.Seat reservations(?) and group rates.

Transport for Wales no longer offer seat reservations on any of their services.

I doubt that you will have much of a problem, train will get busier from Bangor, but that won’t affect you as you will already be seated!

Might just be worth contacting them still though and explain the plan, they may be able to do something to assist.

Llandudno has just beaten me to it, trains will get busier at Bangor and then beyond the Junction, which won't be a problem for you.

I know this may sound a bit odd but have you considered hiring a coach?

The train fare is about £10 so with 29 people that's £290, I wonder how much a coach would cost in comparison?

It would probably makes things easier.

You may be surprised. I'd recommend contacting a local coach firm line Alpine or Llew Jones

Just out of interest - how do you intend to get your 29 senior citizens back to Llanfair PG?

A coach for an outward and return trip should be cheaper.

We already have a coach which will drop us off at LPG and collect us from LLJ. We are touring Snowdonia and visiting the Ffestiniog Railway. The point of the exercise is to go on a train following that beautiful piece of coast line. Last year we went Exeter to Newton Abbot along another stunning piece of coast line. There were quite a few school kids on the train but most of us got a good view on the left side.

Personally, I think that it would be far more interesting to make this journey by train.
