How many people do you think passed both assessments and how many people can they progress to the OPC? Obviously nobody knows but it would be interesting to get the views of anybody with some industry knowledge.

What I want to know is what justification RSSB has for only allowing people to take the train driver tests twice in their entire lifetime but that's a moan for another thread :P

That's bloody true... I went first time in 2019 and failed one of them as went without preparation and what will be will be. Than second time passed but missed one on first as enhanced and on second another one as enhanced and now example doors to Xcountry and Avanti closed unless get in with another TOC and then apply as qualified

It’s actually 3 times. Unless it was changed again recently which I haven’t heard of. They changed it to 3 times from December 2024. 1 year wait after 1st attempt, 4 year wait after 2nd attempt and you know what happens after 3rd attempt.
It’s not that difficult to pass to national standard mate, so I doubt you’ll lose out on chances. From what I’ve heard, as long as you pass to national standard, you can re-take to try to achieve enhanced standard multiple times. You only get a strike when you fail to achieve the standard national standard. The only issue is that, on your re-take, if you fail to achieve national standard, then that will nullify your previous result.

Not true.... If you attempt twice and you don't do all parts to enhanced standard you will not be able to do again in your life time.

It's changed but only for people who attempt test now for 1st time. If people have done attempt before new changes it's still 2 times
If you pass all the parts at national standard you will not lose lifes , enchanced is specifically for toc. You can attempt as many times as you want aslong as you pass whatever you attempted to national standard everytime, I asked this after my first OPC assesment and that is what OPC has told me

Sorry to hear it. Thing is if you applied again and got identical results, that time you could go to the next stage if you are amongst the upper side of the results list that time compared to others
Yep same passed both test and I’ve previously passed the OPC assessment at a higher standard and was previously talent pooled by Arriva lol - oh well guess it’s onto the next application…

How do you know you've passed both tests if you've been unsuccessful?

If your application goes to the hiring manager then its both tests have been passed. You might not be progressed after the hiring manager because of location or the scores themselves being used as an extra filtering

With motorbike will take 30min but if they look car it was showing 40min to 1hr30 for peak hrs

Does anyone know what's the next step after they shortlist everyone? Is it straight to OCP or is there a video interview stage? Wondering as I can get quote stressed by the idea of video interviews stutter a lot so I want to know what to expect.

I know there's a video interview for GWR and they're under the first group so same parent company different TOC and the assessments I did for both were identical so I couldn't give you a concrete answer but I would imagine potentially it could be a video interview
Thank you for your reply! I also applied for both vacancies. I did the SJT and detail checking test for both and I'm waiting for next steps. I suppose now we just have to wait and see.

There is definitely a video interview for gwr. Not sure about the overground. I was petrified about the video interview for LNER last year. I passed them but tripped up on the STJ.
Can I what would you say is the best way to prepare for video interviews?

I’m terrible at it myself. Practice does help. Practice what you want to say in the interview when you get through to that stage. There should be instructions with the question or questions they want you to answer. You will be alright

Have you been told you’ve got an interview? Most of us are waiting to see if we’ve been shortlisted (which isn’t guaranteed even if you’ve passed both online tests).
I've been invited to the OPC tests as of today.
