CrossCountry services from Birmingham New Street on 21/06/2026 question

Earlier today (21/06/26) I was at Birmingham New Street and it was mentioned that there was a CrossCountry train to Winchester which was not calling at Leamington Spa or Banbury, so the first stop was Oxford. I can't find this train on RTT or anywhere so I was wondering why said train was not calling at Leamington Spa and Banbury. It was around 14:30 I was at New Street.

I am aware that the Manchester to Bournemouth trains are being diverted away from the engineering works in the Coventry area today, meaning they are going via Warwick rather than the normal route.

EDIT: found it, the 1325 Manchester Piccadilly to Bourmouth train didn't call at Leamington Spa or Banbury but passed through both. Does anyone know why?

Gen direct from AXC website.

13:25 Manchester Piccadilly to Bournemouth will be terminated at Winchester.
It will no longer call at Wolverhampton, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Southampton Airport Parkwy, Southampton Central, Brockenhurst and Bournemouth.
This is due to a shortage of traincrew.

Cheers, rather odd decision to not call at certain stations due to a lack of train crew.

Driver shortages, various other Cross Country services between Birmingham New St and Bouremouth have either been cancelled, or missing out stops, whilst others that ran as timetabled, have been very full, leaving people behind.

Sundays as per uusual, causing the issues. Over staff, availibilty, plus the hot summer weather does not help either.

I wonder if in reality the station calls were removed because of overcrowding. I know the Journey Check system which PP57601 has quoted can't refer to multiple reasons on the same train for why it's been delayed.

E.g. Reason 1- Shortage of train crew is why it's terminating at Winchester.

Reason 2- I suspect it's failing to call at Wolverhampton, Leamington Spa and Banbury because of overcrowding.

I say this because I also noticed 15:12 from Birmingham New Street to Plymouth today unusually skipped Cheltenham Spa due to overcrowding and also a northbound Cross Country skipped Tamworth.

There's been loads of cancellations today on XC because of staff shortages, meaning the ones that are running are very very crowded. That train and some others had stops removed for that reason

XC on a Sunday are a joke

Fewer trains, so why not run doubles on those that do operate?

XC are a joke full stop, travelled with them two weeks ago on a Friday. We were booked on the 1103 New Street to Reading, the 1033 was cancelled and the 1103 rolled up as four carriage instead of eight, it was rammed. Thank goodness we only make this journey a couple of times per year. I feel sorry for those who have to use this service on a regular basis. How long will this circus be allowed to continue?

These days for my Birmingham to Oxford journeys, I travel via Worcester. Often cheaper but sometimes I get caught with an hour between connections but Worcester is always worth a walk around.

It was ever thus.
I went Macclesfield-Oxford in 1979/80 and although there was a good morning service I could get a seat on which also ran non-stop New Street to Oxford, returning was usually chaos, and I’d usually take 50+early Mark 2 to Worcester for a DMU up Lickey for whatever wasn’t rammed onwards.
My route of choice today would be Milton Keynes, at least once they manage to run services from there.
