London to Göttingen, 30 September

Hello all - I'm wondering if anyone might have any suggestions for this journey over and above what RailEurope and bahn.de have found. I'm looking for either a same-day journey as late as possible on Wednesday 30 September, or a sleeper (or journey with an overnight hotel stay) to arrive as early as possible on 1 October. (Travelling back on Friday 2 October but I'm more flexible that day so less worried about finding the right itinerary).

So far, I've mainly found with several overnight changes. The closest I've come to what I need are:
  • d. St Pancras 15:04; a. Göttingen 00:49, with changes at Brussels, Cologne and Hanover. Later than ideal, but it could work OK - but I'm slightly concerned that a 17-minute connection at Hanover could leave me stranded!
  • d. St Pancras 15:31; a. Göttingen 04:31, changing at Paris (Nord to Est, with a very comfortable 86-minute connection), Strasbourg and Offenburg onto a NightJet - with just short of 5 hours on the latter, so enough to get a little bit of sleep.
  • d. St Pancras 18:04; a. Göttingen 10:55, with an overnight stay in Amsterdam. Happy to break my journey but 10:55 is going to be too late an arrival.
I'm guessing these options are as good as it gets but I thought I would check in case anyone has any cleverer ideas! Can always take the plane to Hanover if necessary but I'd rather travel by train if it's feasible. Thanks in advance!

Often I suggest the Harwich to Hoek ferry as an alternative to Eurostar but it doesn't help. It's 6 hours or so from Schiedam (closest train station to Hoek, a few stops on tram) to Göttingen. It may be an option for your return journey. It's a very comfortable route, especially the overnight crossing, if you've never tried it.

You could overnight in Frankfurt (1704 off St. Pancras via Brussels). There are several early morning ICE services from Frankfurt to Göttingen to get you there in time.

There is an ICE at just gone midnight at a NightJet at midnight thirty, from Hannover, so I would take this option given you wouldn't be stranded.

If 10.55 is too late, what is your actual deadline, please?
The convenient overnight stops are Hannover and Frankfurt, but the latter is far easier to reach from London.
Shame the Paris Berlin NJ didn't work out...

Probably no later than 10:00, to be on the safe side.

This could work but I couldn't get an itinerary on bahn.de - it suggests that the 15:04 is the last train with a connection to Frankfurt that arrives the same day. Any advice on how to generate an itinerary?

You can enter a via station on bahn.de and specify how long you want the layover time to be. That way you can tweak the results to get something that works for you.

How about an overnight stay in Hannover to continue the last bit to Göttingen the next day? You won't have to worry about the 17 min change and there are enough trains from Hannover to Göttingen the next morning.

Looks like it is cancelled on quite a few dates :(
I think the best option is the 1504, staying overnight somewhere in Germany.

Of the OP's options, the best one seems to be the first one via Hannover. After the booked connection (the 17-minute one), there are 2 more trains, so the chance of being stranded is low.

The logical thing for me would be to overnight in Hanover, if your deadline is 1000 the next morning. You'll arrive in Hanover at a more civilized time, and there are plenty of trains in the morning.

Thanks for these further suggestions. For slightly obscure reasons, I have to confirm my accommodation now but don't know yet how early I'll be able to leave London. I will therefore go for an overnight break in Frankfurt or Hanover and then, once I know when I can leave, either go for the 15:04 or if necessary take an evening plane.
