I spent the weekend at Shiiine On in Skegness and saw several acts over the three days. Highlights included The Beat, The Specials (Neville Staple), Cud, Utah Saints and Bentley Rhythm Ace. The last one in particular surprised me as I always regarded them as a bit of a joke act, but they were really good. Quite an eclectic mix all told.

The best (and loudest!) was the French band Indochine* at the Palais Nikaïa in Nice on October 23, 2006; the most anticipated-but-disappointing was the so-called 'Velvet Underground' at Bristol University Students Union in October 1971 (the 'Loaded' tour: John Cale, Lou Reed, and Sterling Morrison were gone; Doug Yule just bellowed).

My most recent one was Climax Blues Band in Preston last month. Quite disappointing, not much of a blues sound nowadays, perhaps they should rename themselves the Climax Soul Band. The keyboard player and rhythm section were in the band when I last saw them in 1991, when Colin Cooper was still there, but this time they had no saxophone or harmonica player - instead the lead singer played the trumpet, which was no substitute. They played a few of the CBB blues classics with no real fire, and the worst was the encore, Goin' To New York - I left during a bass guitar solo which followed a drum solo.

Just booked tickets to see The Wildhearts in Edinburgh at the end of May.
My 49th time.

Hoping to make it a round 50 before Ginger's cancer becomes too much for him to continue performing

Booked to see Boyzone with support from S Club in June. Not been to Arsenal ground before. Was only £20.

I went to see Ray LaMontagne at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham on Monday. It’s the 20th anniversary of his album ‘Trouble’. Lovely evening of great music. He’s always been noted for being very shy but he was much more talkative than when I last saw him almost 20 years ago.

Well, it was last night.
If there had been no announcement of his illness, apart from looking thinner than I've ever seen him, you wouldn't think there was much wrong with him.

They have more gigs lined up for the next few months and a new album recorded, potentially released in October.

Last night might not have been the final time, but if it was, I'd be happy with that

Nerina Pallot last night at Royal Albert Hall, whilst I don’t begrudge her taking the opportunity to play there something about it just didn’t work for me and I feel perhaps she works better in smaller venues.

Tonight I’m down at Circuit in Kingston for Keither Sutherland.

Well Keither was just excellent, to be honest I never knew he did music as well as acting, Banquet records gigs are usually good value for a cheap night out so I went along to see what he was like and really liked what I heard him do.
Got a busyish month with two album launch shows-Hollie Rogers on Sunday and Alyssa Bonagura later in the month-as well as Stacy Antonel at Green Note and Garth Brooks in Hyde Park.

Iron Maiden in Amsterdam last week was brilliant, what a venue the Ziggo Dome is, great acoustics, great sight lines, bloody big!!

Only thing that let it down was that there was one merch stand for the floor and floor level seating bowl and only 2 for the Level 1 and 2 bowls (we queued for an hour at one of them for another t-shirt (bought 3 for this tour, £140 spent)

Beach Boys at Royal Chelsea Hospital which was a splendid venue

Sadly Mike Love's voice has gone which was a problem as he was lead vocalist on a number of tracks. Fortunately the harmonies covered it up and in the second half they spread the vocals around

Fun and nostalgic for us veterans

Metallica at Hampden Park in June was a real buzz. Inspired me to get back into guitar. Not sure if mid-life crisis or not though!

I do feel I need to get to one of their US tour dates though.

It's been a long time, since I went to a concert. I now struggle to stand for long periods, it causes my back to ache, I know, I'm getting old :D I was lucky enough to have seen Queen, Gary Numan, Ultravox, The Pretenders, UB40, OMD and my favourite artist of all time, John Foxx:D,(who I doubt many have heard of but I've seen him over 30 times) .

My biggest regret, I never saw David Bowie. :(

I was at the London Stadium for both nights of Metallica. They were just incredible, and them playing Enter Sandman at the end of the 2nd night with 80,000 singing along still gets my spine tingling now!

There was a guy in front of me who was literally crying with emotion. The vibe was proper electric.

My Chemical Romance at Wembley on the Saturday night (10th July?) was amazing. You could hear the whole crowd singing along for most of it, and got a couple of songs that hadn't been played for over 15 years!

I was at Bellahouston! They played Ambulance live for the first time.

Oh I'm so jealous, I love that song!!

To be fair though we got both Boy Division and SING (yes I know it's controversial to some, but I like it!).
