Appears 777004 will be back in passenger service soon but the looks of things.777004 was out yesterday evening (10/06/2026) on the Southport line running as 5T43, 5T44, 5T45 & 5T46. I caught it passing through Formby.
That was 777008 sometime ago. Back in service now.I dont know which numbered train it was that hit the buffers at rock ferry and needed fixing.
4 8 car sets on Southport services, none on OrmskirkIs the 8 car out today?
They can't get that right and we are supposed to trust that doors won't open at short platformsI am on the 05.36 from Southport with the leading unit (777018) displaying "Liverpool Central" but the other unit (777017) showing "Not in Service".
The two units on the 05.51 departure from Southport also showed different information, but this time it was the leading unit (777007) whose PIS stated "Not in Service".
One of my recent journeys had the end displays showing 'Out of Service' and the side displays showing something like 'See platform display for destination'!I am on the 05.36 from Southport with the leading unit (777018) displaying "Liverpool Central" but the other unit (777017) showing "Not in Service".

Thanks. Been the best part of 3 years since it last worked! For anyone who may be interested 777004 will be on the Ellesmere port line this afternoon.
Hallelujah! My last 777 is finally in service again. For anyone who may be interested 777004 will be on the Ellesmere port line this afternoon.
It appears to have failed at Ellesmere Port.004 out on Ellesmere Port services again this morning. It’s trolling me now..![]()
Has indeed, looks like it’s been pulled from service. Fingers crossed it’s not 3 years before we see it againIt appears to have failed at Ellesmere Port.
There seems to be an issue in 8 car formation. The boards on the exterior don’t seem to talk to each other correctly a lot of the time.Just seen 2S61 (reported as 777 022 and 777 033 on RTt) arrive at Formby station. Leading unit showed “Southport” as the destination on the side PIS display, but trailing unit showed “Hunts Cross”. What”s going on here?
My train home on Friday evening wrongly announced that it would not be stopping at Cressington. Then between Central and Brunswick the PIS was reset (we got a full announcement of all stations between Ormsirk and Hunts Cross including Cressington). But then at St Michaels we got an announcement that the rear doors in coach 8 would not open, despite only being on a 4 car train. And then at Aigburth an announcement that passengers for Cressington should move to the front 4 coaches. Very confusing for anyone not a regular traveller.I noticed yesterday the station announcements after capenhurst where wrong and out of service in the windows.
Interesting text scrolling on the Liverpool bound platform LED display at Bromborough: "This service may be disrupted after Moorfields because of a speed restriction caused by severe weather between Headbolt Lane and Liverpool Central"
Merseyrail is indeed advising disruption to Headbolt Northern line services, but why this would affect Wirral line services is beyond me!
777009 & 777012 was allocated (5G03) as an 8 car on the Ormskirk early hours this morning. However, it seems 009 had a fault, resulting in 012 running alone. My train home on Friday evening wrongly announced that it would not be stopping at Cressington. On a related topic, is there any news on 8 cars returning to Ormskirk-Hunts Cross services yet?
By the way, 777004 is out on Ormskirk line today, currently on the 1206 from Hunts Cross.
Probably because nobody has a clue where Headbolt Lane actually is!Interesting text scrolling on the Liverpool bound platform LED display at Bromborough: "This service may be disrupted after Moorfields because of a speed restriction caused by severe weather between Headbolt Lane and Liverpool Central"

Like any Emergency Speed Restriction (ESR) they are implemented over the affected area. Due to the weather there are worries over the conditions of the track on the Headbolt line. This has resulted in the placement of a ESR and a reduction of the timetable to every 30 minutes until Friday.Their is a speed restriction on the headbolt line but not the rest of merseyrail network. Why is this ?
Our trains have climate control. This is not the same as air conditioning, but a system that helps keep the train from getting too hot or too cold as the temperature outside changes.
The same discussion is being had in the TfW Class 398 and T&W Class 555 threads - the 'air conditioning' specified for the saloons has a limited range and can only cool to a few degrees below the outside ambient air, presumably to save power (and cost). Possibly a bit short-sighted considering how the UK summers have been going in recent years. Is the above correct? If so, it's a bit of a change from all previous statements which have referred to the 777s as fully air-conditioned. Is this a bit of expectation management for people complaining the trains are too hot?
The speed restriction is on the Single line so from after Fazakerley to Headbolt, causing a loss of a few minutes. however due to the timetable needed services to pass at Fazakerley the result was a snowball effect of delays. Therefore to run a reliable timetable the decision was made to cut services to 30 minutes. So far I have seen no reports of heat caused issues besides some HVAC failures. The speed restriction on the Kirkby line is interesting. On Merseyrail's website it was being reported as between Kirkby and Fazakerley, but was then changed to just say there was a speed restriction on the line. On Merseytravel's twitter page, it was reported as being between Kirkby and Headbolt Lane. National Rail's twitter page just states 'a speed restriction due to high temperatures'. I'm wondering if it's actually due to hitting the limits of the cooling capacity of the battery pack temperature control system, meaning they have to run in a limited performance mode with bigger gaps between services to allow them to to cool down (shades of the TfW Class 230s).
