A few years ago (2019), I looked up the then current standard, and there were quite a few approved shades. I’d be surprised if that hadn’t been carried forward from previous rules.

I am trying to think when I managed the BR paint contracts. Must be around 1990/1991. But even two different manufacturers, could see a slightly different colour.

I commute York to Derby and back once a week. So far, I’ve been on refurbed units 3 times.
When will the refurbished units outnumber the non-refurbed ones? I.e. when will it be more likely that I’ll be on a new one?
(Apologies if this is already answered somewhere in the prior 70 pages.)
You must keep getting 4 car units then.

By about next February taking the fleet as a whole, by my back-of-an-envelope calculations. Though sooner than that if your journeys primarily involve 4-car sets as noted above, as they seem to be working through those first.

220008 now back out in the new livery.

I assume another one would have gone in to replace it?

I believe it’s 220003, as this was due in last week but was put back into service at the weekend due to unit shortage.

Ah yes so I see. On our memos yesterday it stated it was due to go back in the refurb queue today… must still be unit supply issues…

There’s been quite a few single set workings in place of double sets this week. 1205 and 1404 departures from Edinburgh just two of many that are short formed.

Are you intending on keeping this list updated? It seems to be the best single source of truth on the matter...

Am I right to think there are just the 2 Voyagers being refurbished at the same time?

If this is the case, how come multiple diagrams where services should be double sets seem to be short formed at the moment?

There's three being done at a time.

Handy list, thank you.

Are you maybe worth adding in which unit went in first, second and third each time there’s units in for refurb. Saves those guessing which one is next to come out, if they haven’t read the thread.

I take it all back…

Got a table seat on a refurbished version today and due to the higher table the experience is much more spacious and comfortable.

I hope that when the ex-Avanti ones come to be refurbished they stick to their mostly-tables layout in Coach D…

Think there has been a few units with issues that need repairs.

Noticed you mentioned that 220005 has it's pride livery, will it be keeping some rendition of that when it eventually is refurbished or will that move to a new unit (Presuming that CrossCountry will be keeping it, very rare that a TOC doesn't have some form of pride celebration train nowadays, pretty sure only 2 or 3 TOCs don't have one of these, I know Grand Central are one of them). If they do keep the livery, does anyone have a mock-up of what this may look like, not really expecting much, will be interesting if there is a mock-up floating around.

Also, one more thing, will the units that have been named be keeping that name, as I believe the 'nameplates' are vinyl stickers (not really plates, but whatever).

Is this why rush hour trains aren’t 8/9 carriage units, 4/5 on a Leeds train to Sheffield at 17:15 should be doubled, are the unit they are usually attached to being painted, fresh seated etc, during the day I’ve seen doubled units bit rush hour they’ve reverted back on the change made in December, a few weeks of a new timetable, rush hour trains aren’t too small and the rail magazines barely acknowledge it.

Have a look at 170103 to see what sort of Pride livery we could expect, if XC decide to go with one, I personally quite like it but I know it's had mixed reviews on here.

I find that alright, it’s been integrated nicely into the livery on the unit but is also a lot, however not too much (looking at Avanti here), if they do the same thing on a 220 it will be interesting, to see as I wonder whether that’ll be a bit much.

I know where you're coming from, these sort of liveries have to be carefully planned and designed otherwise they can very easily look awful.... Thinking of the Avanti Evero that looks like it's been done over by the same mob that have been 'decorating' the Bakerloo tube stock.

I guess it's all subjective though.

BR Intercity Great Western was franchised to GW Holdings in 1996, a management buy-out supported financially by First Group.
GWH was later bought out fully by First Group (who by then owned other franchises).

In the second franchise round FG won the enlarged Greater Western franchise which included Thames Trains and most of Wessex Trains, which was later rebranded as GWR at the last franchise change.

I take it all back…

The ex-Avanti sets will be standardised to align with the existing fleet.

Anyone know which 220 went to Derby on 8/6 please? 220016 was released today, 43423 and 43467 took it back to Central Rivers.

The 1715 departure from Leeds is booked to be a double set, althoughi in the last week it's only been that on Monday!!

I travelled on 220033 yesterday from Manchester 13.03 to Wolverhampton (on a Bristol TM service). It did NOT have the slightly pooey voyager smell, at least in the 1st class coach. It was less rattly and noisy than many I've been on. First was clean and smart, and did seem more airy, but the new seats are quite a bit narrower-based (I think). Theyre quite a bit firmer and had less recline, though they rather suited me personally (but then I like TPE 802 and mark 5A seats fine so YMMV!) More arm space and space between but less bum space. The tables to me look cheap compared to the old ones, but again were smart enough. I did notice that the facing table seats were directly across the pillars.

There still wasn't remotely enough capacity for the luggage of the passengers in that coach - there were 10 or more suitcases in the wheelchair area.

The train was comically/dangerously over full. There were people standing tube-like in all the vestibules by the time it got to Wolverhampton, and not everyone at Wolverhampton was able to get on.

Reservations weren't working, but were still supposed to be obeyed. The staff did their best to manage the situation, I really have no complaints there.

The fundamental problem remains that it is a 4 coach train with about half the necessary capacity :(

Again, this is a cosmetic refurbishment and was never intended to address capacity problems.

The capacity issue is purely in the hands of the DFT who refuse to address it.
