This service from Wembley LMD was formed of 2 165s and CH04 according to RTT. I would’ve thought it would be a set swap, but the two units both formed the 1619 to Wycombe and did not form and were not formed from anything other than this. Similar for the Mk5 - it usually arrives into London on 1H48 to form 1J47, but 1H48 was a different 3 car 165 and 1J47 was run by CH04, so it does all sorta seem to add up. 1J47 left Marylebone 14 late and was on time into Warwick Parkway with no stops skipped so defo not a 165.

This is pretty interesting if it did actually happen. Has a Mk5 ever coupled to a unit? I thought it wasn’t even possible tbh
Don't believe everything you see on the internet... ;)

Not sure if this has happened before but whatever set was returning from Eastleigh today got pressed straight into service. The move from Eastleigh got cancelled at Marylebone instead of continuing to Wembley and got sent straight onto 1J59. Although in which only made it to Leamington Spa before getting canned,

Not much Exploring going on last night - 1637 & 1737 ex MYB cancelled and the 1837 Stourbridge Junction was subbed for a 3 car 165 . Today's 0815 ex Birmingham swapped for the 165 too presumably to get it back to London. Not sure if they do not like the heat or just bad luck!

I don't think much on the railways these days likes the level of heat to which we've had in the previous 72 hours.
(Not wishing to divert the thread elsewhere).

I see also the units on 1H14 were caped this morning, (problem with the traction equipment).

A good while back someone asked me for a view on the bike spaces on the MK5s. At the time, I’d anticipated more time spent on the Chiltern network, so it’s taken until today to try it out.

I’ve attached photos, I think you’ve got to click on them to load properly. I shared it with a norm and her little e-bike thing. It’s not a bad space to be honest, definitely prefer it to the hooks on IETs!

On my way to Shrewesbury we paid a visit to Long Marston. No sign of any ex TPE Mk5s there, not even 12802. The place was awash with 458/5s, 350/2s and 319s(well mainly ex TfW 769s I suppose). We looked from the road at the roof lines in both the sidings nearest the road & rail entrance. We also looked at the sidings in te distance.

So anyone hoping for 12802 etc at Long Marston might not want to bother trekking there.

Presumably, then, CH01 and 12802 are at Eastleigh, although I don't remember seeing any reports of those moving?

CH01 went on 31/05, if 12802 isn't there then it would have gone by road presumably.
Thank you... I await CH01's service entry.... it's the only rake I haven't had ( apart from the obvious one other vehicle, of course ) for haulage yet.

I don't remember if it was confirmed before or not, but I've now seen a photo of 12802 at Long Marston confirming it's in blue now.

Is this a fresh photo?

There was one a few weeks ago which turned out to have been misidentified as 12802 had been swapped into another rake to move it and the DT from that rake was left at Long Marston for a few days until the reverse move took place.

It might be worth noting that CH01 was in its new colours when it came by on 31/05

A new photo, and was close enough up to see it definitely is 12802 this time

Rode on one of these sets today from Marylebone to High Wycombe, but it doesn't seem that the return working stops there.

Very smart interior, although the seats could be better.

Damn. How did you see it. I was there with a friend last Tuesday and a sea of 458/5s, 350s and 769s meant I could not even spot a likely roof. That was from the road outside though.

The photo I saw showed it closely sandwiched between a 458 & a 769, not quite sure where exactly on the site it is though.

That is probably to the far left on the nearer sidings as viewed from the road that runs parallel to the old main line. That is based on my recollection of where the 769s were.
