For a railcard holder over 55 from the east Northern area this is only the second rover that covers my station and I am interested in giving it a try. I am guessing it will be similar to the newspaper offer I recently got only over twice the price I wish we had more options similar to the west of the northern area has

Having now read the process for booking online, it seems buying a ticket at the TVM or ticket office is less faff. All seems over complicated.
Yes bit a disappointing they appear to have gone down the m-ticket route. Though it does talk about downloading a pdf to your phone at the same time which isn't something that m-tickets classically involved. If it wasn't for the cost I'd be tempted to buy one just to see how it works

Not sure I understand what you mean.....there's a grid of 1-4 days and 1-4 people and a price in each?
Admittedly, the pricing and discounts seem a bit random, for example for one person the second day costs an extra £25, the third day costs and extra £30, and the fourth day costs an extra £20
Similarly for a one day pass but adding people, the second costs £25, the third costs £30 and the fourth costs £20

It can't be a PDF and an M-ticket, and duplicating a PDF across different devices is easier than printing it (for the vast majority)!

What I mean is that comparing 1 and 2 people, quite a likely scenario. One day is 35/60 which is a saving for two, 2 days is 30/60 no saving for two, 3 days is 90/170 which is a saving for two, 4 days is 110/220 which again is no savimg for two.

I see that the Northern Explorer has indeed now appeared on the Northern website, albeit hard to find: you have to go via the above link to find it. If you simply go to the homepage, there doesn't seem to be any obvious way of finding it. It doesn't appear to be listed under Rovers and Rangers.Northern Explorer Ticket

There doesn't appear to be any mention of the new Cumbria travel pass, though, and the tickets listed in entry #9 upthread as planned to be removed are still listed on there at least for now.
Though given the TOC / service allocation it’s basically a “regional services only” rover, which is, tbh, fully understandable.

Yes, and AIUI an m-ticket can only be downloaded into an app, and the Northern website says the Northern Explorer can't be bought using the Northern app, unless that means you have to buy it using the Northern website in the first instance but it will then be downloaded onto the app as an m-ticket.
It's updated to make it the main banner on the homepage

Sounds like I've got some planning to do when I get home (and a form to fill out).
Quite poor that for such a new product, they've obviously copied and pasted this from something at least a decade old.

London Midland - they've missed out a franchise change and a nationalisation!
No mention of Lumo at all, either on the East Coast or West Coast!
Quite why they can't just leave it at "Trains operated by Northern only" and leave it at that....? If they're going to list every TOC they interact with, they should get it right.
Will be interesting to see how this product survives when there is no "Northern" in a few years - and it's GBR - or what happens with the Greater Manchester services which will be technically be TfGM Bee Network, and just contracted to Northern, initially.
I wonder if it is technically also valid between Sunderland and Newcastle on the T&W Metro...!

I'd expect those services will work the same way as PTE services worked in the 1990s, i.e. be operated by GBR but with Bee livery and with Bee paying to upgrade frequencies etc. So I would expect still valid.
There may be no Northern but there probably will be "regional services in the North of England" or somesuch. These tickets existed under BR in the 1990s and earlier, they will still exist under GBR in the 2030s.

It's not an mTicket. ACP Rail have, for a long time, used the term "M-Pass" to describe what are E-Tickets. I do not know why. They do it with all of their BritRail and ScotRail rovers.

A bastardised version of an E-Ticket with my name backwards and smushed together, but yes - just a PDF with familiar fields:
Of course, this does not mean it is less secure, as the security is in the barcode.
