Advice on selling unused train tickets (Advance Singles, Avanti West Coast)

Hello everyone,

My name is Frank and I’m from the Netherlands.
I bought 7 train tickets for a trip with friends, but we’ve unfortunately had to cancel our plans due to unforeseen circumstances. We can't use the tickets anymore and they are non-refundable.

I’m wondering if there is any legitimate way in the UK to resell unused train tickets at a discount?
I came across www.savemyfare.co.uk via Google, but I’m not sure whether it is a trustworthy platform or whether there is any realistic chance of selling tickets there.

Could anyone advise on the proper or accepted way to resell these tickets?

Details:
Avanti West Coast only (Advance Single e-tickets) for 9 August 2026 (MotoGP race day)
Birmingham New Street (08:26) → Milton Keynes Central (09:37)
Seats 16–22

They can be sold individually or as a bundle.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The conditions of carriage (https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/NRCOT/) allow you to sell the tickets as long as you do so for less than you paid - it's point 5.1.3.

On the other hand, I've never heard of anyone actually doing so online, and there's no well established secondary market so you might struggle. I would think your best hope is to advertise on any forums or sites frequented by people going to the same event.

Also, please note that if the train is delayed on the day you'd be entitled to a refund, if you were able to claim that that was why you didn't travel....

Hi,
Thank you for the reply.

I found a Facebook group “Buy & Sell Train Tickets - UK!” (>21.000 members).

I will offer the tickets in that group, and probably i will try in a Facebook group or forum for the race event.
Then we will see if someone is interest.
I’m happy to sell the tickets without profit (and even with a discount), so i won’t break the conditions.

Obviously we will not travel to the departure station. If i don’t sell the tickets: How can i know if the train is delayed on the departure date?
Is there a website with departure times like at an airport?
