Hi All,
I had my ticket checked on a GWR train yesterday and when I was asked to show my railcard for some reason I had to redownload the railcard app (sometimes my phone will randomly remove apps to save space). When I finally managed to download and open the railcard app it only showed a really old expired railcard. The ticket inspector took my name and address and when I asked if I was getting a letter or fine he said “No, don’t worry just renew your railcard now.” I renewed the old card but I was very confused the entire time because I vividly remember having my railcard checked a few months ago without issue and I would never buy a ticket without having a valid railcard. Anyway, after I renewed the expired railcard I decided to check my emails because something didn’t feel right and it turns out I did in-fact have a railcard already valid from February this year until Feb 2027 it just wasn’t showing up on the app anymore for some reason. So now I have two railcards and the possibility of receiving some sort of letter from revenue protection. If I do receive a letter and I explain that I have had a valid railcard for this entire time will I be shown any leniency? This is the first time I’ve ever had any sort of issue like this, I always buy the correct ticket and apply the relevant discounts. I’m certain that I’ve had this railcard checked by an inspector at least once or twice since purchasing it in February.
