These are positioning runs to get buses to and from Stonehaven that have been cancelled. Most of the X7 is run by East Scotland not, North Scotland however it looks like those runs are also staying? https://bustimes.org/registrations/PM0000005/812
The 727 alternates between either serving Chapelton or Skateraw Road, so both will retain their existing hourly frequency. Although for those within walking distance of the Park & Ride it does see the service increase from three buses an hour to five buses an hour.Stonehaven appears to go from one stopping service an hour 8 to two limited stop services X8 and X9. Chapelton goes from one limited stop service X8 to two stopping services an hour 727. The 727 will also serve Dyce Raiiway Station every 45 minutes. The 737 and X7 are cancelled. The 59 goes to every 20 minutes from 15.
The initial phase includes several significant enhancements, particularly across the Aberdeen to Stonehaven corridor. New services will be introduced alongside the existing X7, creating a combined express frequency of up to every 20 minutes between Aberdeen and Stonehaven, which has been hailed as a “clear uplift in capacity and choice”.
Service 727 will see its frequency increased, operating between Portlethen, Aberdeen city centre, Dyce and Aberdeen Airport, further strengthening links between communities and key employment hubs. More detail on this are due shortly.
Across the wider network, timetables are being redesigned to better reflect real-world conditions and demand. This includes revised running times on key routes to improve punctuality, alongside frequency adjustments to ensure services are more reliable and sustainable overall. Communities such as Portlethen and Newtonhill will also benefit from a more clearly structured network, according to the firm.
Stagecoach North Scotland have also highlighted a focus on returning to a stable and dependable level of service, with the changes from May designed to improve punctuality and consistency, and further gains expected as subsequent phases are delivered.
This programme is supported by ongoing operational investment across the business, including fleet, maintenance and frontline delivery, alongside improvements to scheduling and network planning to build greater resilience into the timetable.
Further information on specific service improvements will be announced ahead of their introduction in May
Maybe the 59 is no longer the 'cash cow' that it once was?I think the Stonehaven timetable changes are great but don’t get why the 59 is getting the reduction.
When did that change (pun not intended)? The 59 vehicles used to have hoppers for exact fare. Admittedly, it has been a good while since I've been to Aberdeen.Maybe the 59 is no longer the 'cash cow' that it once was?
Talking of cash, perhaps one of things which differentiated Stagecoach from the competition was them giving change. With cash no longer being the predominant method of payment that advantage has been lost. It feels like the company might in the future pull the plug on the 59 altogether...
I must confess it has been many years since I boarded a 59 but I'd guess it may have been when the MAN 18.220's were removed from use on the 59. I could, however, be well wide of the mark so if anyone knows better feel free to correct the score! When did that change (pun not intended)? The 59 vehicles used to have hoppers for exact fare. The vehicles with hoppers were for use on the "Night Bird" night bus services. The 59 always gave change, usually during the day the hoppers would have a bag over them.I must confess it has been many years since I boarded a 59 but I'd guess it may have been when the MAN 18.220's were removed from use on the 59. Thanks anyway. The last vehicles I definitely remember having hoppers were the Alexander PS-bodied Volvo B10Ms. I didn't get a chance to travel on the V-DSA registered MANs, but it looks as if they had hoppers too:I must confess it has been many years since I boarded a 59 but I'd guess it may have been when the MAN 18.220's were removed from use on the 59. While I don't doubt that those vehicles were used on Night Bird services, it's not the case that change has always been given on the 59. That route, along with the 55 (later 5) were the last remnants of the CityBus network and all those services were exact fare only. The vehicles with hoppers were for use on the "Night Bird" night bus services. Stagecoach Glasgow X19 had Vaults on them as well up until the late 2000sThanks anyway. The last vehicles I definitely remember having hoppers were the Alexander PS-bodied Volvo B10Ms. I didn't get a chance to travel on the V-DSA registered MANs, but it looks as if they had hoppers too:

That's the clearest photo I could find and it looks as if there's a hopper with a bag over it.

I'd be interested to know when the exact fare policy was ditched, but it certainly carried on for a while after the Stagecoach buyout.
Yes your sleuthing is correct, I can confirm they did indeed have hoppers fitted. Thanks anyway. The last vehicles I definitely remember having hoppers were the Alexander PS-bodied Volvo B10Ms. I didn't get a chance to travel on the V-DSA registered MANs, but it looks as if they had hoppers too:

Service Changes to Aberdeen and Aberdenshire Network from Monday 25th May 2026
We're making changes across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire from Monday 25th May, to improve punctuality, reliability, and connections across our network. We'll also be removing some lower used services, allowing us to greater focus on key corridors where customer demand is strongest and higher service frequencies can be delivered.
A summary of changes along with links to the new timetables can be found below:
- Introducing our new X8 service, offering a quicker and more convenient link between Portlethen and Stonehaven.
- More frequent buses between Aberdeen and Stonehaven, now running every 20 minutes for easier turn‑up‑and‑go travel.
- Service 727 will now run 24/7, providing round‑the‑clock journeys between the city centre and Aberdeen Airport.
- Improved connections on Service 727 to Portlethen and Newtonhill, with buses increasing from hourly to every 30 minutes.
- New weekday links to Dyce railway station, with Service 727 calling every 45 minutes for better rail connections.
- Services 8, 8A and N8 will be replaced by enhanced Service 727, bringing improved frequency and better connections.
right... so theyve merged 4 routes into the 727... sounds fun
they might spruce it up a bit and make it the 7/7B etc again!I shouldn’t worry. It'll revert back to 8, 8A etc at the next service change. Stonehaven corridor services have been like this for years.
That would be nice!they might spruce it up a bit and make it the 7/7B etc again!

Stagecoach say:
However, the 727 doesn't travel in/out of Aberdeen via the current 8/8A/N8 route (Union Street - Holburn Street - Great Southern Road - Bridge of Dee - Stonehaven Road).
The X7/X8/X9 look to be going this route, but they are all limited stop after Holburn Street.
Is it correct that there will no longer be any stopping services on this corridor?
They would need to change to the all stops 727 somewhere along the route.
Bus station ambassadors… ive heard it all nowThe Aberdeen travel shop is closing permanently from 15 June 2026, but there will be bus station ambassadors around the stances for enquiries, but not to book tickets.
So far they have been making loudspeaker announcements of stance changes, which is an improvement in the driver shouting from the bus which stance it is on!Other than cost cutting, is there a reasoning behind this? I don‘t have much confidence these ambassadors will be around at times they are actually needed or, as is a bugbear of mine, be proactive in assisting with platform changes (especially when they change it from say 11 to 3 and say nothing…)
