Ahh yeah, it could be. I had another look today and it's very deep but there's a metal grid about a foot from the top to stop people from falling in. I still can't work out why it doesn't show on the more recent photos but I suppose it might be buried in the bushes.

It could be, it's in about the right position. I took these photos today. The first (with no children or dog in it) is the ruins of the small series of huts. The second with children and dog is the separate building. I just don't understand why the ruins don't appear in any photo from the 70s...

Yeah, that's the point, in the marshalling yards today there is a ruin of a building which isn't shown on any of the photos I've linked and I wondered if anyone knew anything about it. I'll see if I can take a photo of it tomorrow and also some of the ruins of the buildings which are shown so...

The Great Central's main line to London. It's only ironic it's now being viewed as an alternative route (at least in part) for HS2. It was ahead of it's time and it suffered for it.

Am I missing something but when I look at google maps the line through Winchcombe is still there? Was it removed and then reinstated?

I've found the photos in the Scenes from the Past book which I hope I'm ok to share. (I'll remove them if necessary if there are any copyright complaints). These show that by 1960 the internal rebuild was complete. For me this is incredible considering you say it was only started in 1959...

To be fair to LNER, they were stuck with GC's debts from the London extension which were crippling and I've read somewhere that as a result of GC's debts LNER never made an operating profit in it's entire history. It would be interesting to know whether the LNER would have run a profit once...
