Station staff gave bad advice - can I get a refund HS1 Boundary Zone

Hi, Yesterday my partner and I were going from Hornsey to Rye (Hornsey to St Pancras to Ashford International (HS1) to Rye). The ticket was around £50 for the two of us (Using a gold card), but then a station staff member informed us that it was about £6 cheaper to get a boundary zone 3-Rye...
