I’m guessing from your username that you’d be coming from an emergency services background?
I left the Met in April 2018 to take up a trainee role. Passed my qualification assessment in December 2018 and I’m now a few months in to my first year as a “real” productive driver.
I have absolutely...
Morning all,
Just wanted to throw my own opinion in to the mix to help out anyone else that might be thinking about taking this path!
I left the Met in April this year to take up a trainee position with ARL. Did just shy of 10 years as a PC and 2 years as a civi in the control room before...
Just for info of you guys waiting;
I applied in the last round (Nov 17).
Heard back just before Xmas 17 telling me I was successful.
Invite to assessment day 1 in Jan 18.
Waited about two weeks for results.
Invite to assessment day 2 in Feb 18.
Found out results the following week.
Invite to...
Thanks!
There’s a chance I won’t make the April course tho, not sure I feel entirely comfortable in resigning from my current role without a guarantee (still have the medical to complete!), but I’m gonna speak to my boss tomorrow (who is very supportive) and see if we can work something out...
Bit of an update!
Had my final offer (paperwork should come today) after my references and vetting got back. Proposing for me to start April 16th - but still need to get my medical out of the way!
Looking forward to starting my new journey! Hopefully I’ll see one or two of you on the same course!
I was on the same Day one as Baz (although he got to slide early as he had already completed the tests elsewhere!).
Application went in Nov 6th. Day one Jan 5th. Day two Feb 16th. Called me the following Monday (19th Feb) to confirm I had been successful and arrange DMI for Feb 23rd. Called me...
They definitely assess the applications and CVs.
When I went for my DMI a few weeks ago, they had printed copies of both in their file on me.
And from what I remember, the application form is pretty basic, so I imagine they are mainly assessing your CV during the paper sift stage. If you...
Another tip is to go to the OPC website. They are the people hosting the assessments and most (if not all) of the tests can be found on their website with a brief rundown of what to expect and even some practice runs for some tests!

Just took the phone call; I got through the DMI!
Only references/vetting and medical to go. Looking like week of March 12th for medical, but that’ll be confirmed shortly!
Time to let my boss know to expect some reference requests soon!
Cheers!
It felt like a positive, so I’m holding on to that - but I’m also fully aware of the fact that I shouldn’t take anything for granted and that these positions are obviously very highly sought after, so the competition for them is likely to be quite fierce!
I’ve had my phone on loud all...
All done!
Was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. The interviewers were both really nice and it felt like I got to answer everything they asked (let’s just hope that it’s enough!).
As the Senior Driver Manager walked me out, he said it was a good interview, so I’m taking that as a...
