    Cowley line to reopen

Councils pretty much have to come up with their transport plans based on getting people on buses and bikes because it’s impossible to guarantee that a rail project will get built. Rail is totally at the mercy of the government/treasury/transport secretary’s whims.

Portishead Approved - Construction Updates Thread - No speculation

A few pictures from a bike ride today - new parapets on Marsh Lane bridge look very tidy and track removal has continued towards the Royal Portbury Dock Road bridge.

    North Filton / Brabazon

It'll be near the m4 Metrobus route, which will (eventually) be rerouted through Brabazon. I'm not sure what the plan is for the 2a but that currently terminates at a temporary turning loop just short of the development so it's a safe bet that it'll go in once the road is finished. I'd hope for...

Portishead Approved - Construction Updates Thread - No speculation

Do you have a link to the proposal? Spent a bit of time googling and I couldn't find anything about it happening.

Portishead Approved - Construction Updates Thread - No speculation

The roundabout next to where the station will be in Portishead has now had its trees chopped down, along with most of the others in the area. A hive of activity today, especially with cable diversions also underway.

    MML Electrification: progress updates

There’s clearly been an amount of time and money spent that would make it very silly for the government to cancel the project now. However, this is the Treasury we’re talking about, so never assume they’ll make the rational decision when they have the alternative option of spending less.

    HS2 Old Oak Common

Having passed by the site today, there are OHLE masts being installed for the new GWML/EL alignment. Unfortunately didn’t get a picture but good to see more progress.

HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct construction updates

According to the newsletter you link, the barriers "begin where the Colne Valley viaduct starts and then stretch back northwards for nearly 500 metres either side of the railway line", so they're on the section immediately to the north of the viaduct and not on the viaduct itself. The image...

Portishead Approved - Construction Updates Thread - No speculation

I live in the area so might do the same. There’s a section you can currently walk along between the town and Sheepway so I’ll try and get some pictures of that.

    MML Electrification: progress updates

The UDS will certainly be wired, no doubt about that. The slows were wired all the way from Bedford to Wellingborough despite never being used by passenger services, so there's no way they'll leave out slows coming into Leicester. I suspect it'll be portals all the way through, considering the...

    MML Electrification: progress updates

Good to hear there’s progress in the works, but surely NR wouldn’t have designed a project which precluded four-tracking when that’s on the agenda for the next decade or so?

Nine HS2 bridges with welding defects

That’s interesting, I wonder if it’s why the viaducts into Curzon St seem to be taking so long. The Lawley Middleway bridge has been sat there fully assembled for ages and the big steel piers for the canal section were definitely supposed to have some work done for the deck by now.

    MML Electrification: progress updates

Happened to walk over the Welford Road overbridge a little south of LEI today and there were a couple of wooden pegs in the ground by the tracks (see attached photo). Not sure whether it’s electrification-based. If they are pile locations they seem badly placed though, they seem to be in...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Unfortunately/luckily, TfW will not be running regular light trams. The 398s have heavy batteries in them which brings them close to the weight of a regular train.
