All three local parties are claiming victory on "saving the service" - its pitiful how they're all willing to spin such a huge cut in service for several months as a huge success, when in fact their constituents are far worse off.
Have red-light cameras been trialled on crossings? If people thought their license was at risk they'd unlikely run the light?
I was also going to ask why standard traffic lights aren't used, but then found this:
I've thought the same. It also annoys me when I've seen these scrolling only the final destination - "Manchester Picc", especially annoying as that would fit on the display without scrolling, and then wouldn't be so distracting!

Anybody know any more detail as to what the problem is?
I've been in exactly that position - arrived to find my train had been delayed 30 mins, so me and a colleague went to the bar, and thankfully sat in eyeline of a departure board. The board updated and our platform had changed from 1 to 10, and we were departing in five minutes. I guess they'd...
I see people caught out by this all the time, especially where a TPE train will be the front train but hasn't yet arrived, with a Northern Rail train sat at the back. It really gets confusing when there's three services running from one platform. Daily a NR service is parked up, then three...
Does anybody know if Northern have actually withdrawn units from service in order to refurbish them - i.e. so less trains are available to cover service? Or are they being swapped out with other units that are arriving - as part the press release above? I've found since September that my line...
For most it might be "silly" but some may have trouble standing due to a disability or injury, and would need the seat even for a short while - and it'll be easier to have a reserved seat perhaps than ask someone to move from the accessible seats closest the door (they can't be reserved can they?).
Surely the cost of installing and maintaining a machine at Ardwick will never be recouped - even if lots of people claim to have boarded there (remember there is only four services a day stopping there, so as long as staff know this then it can be difficult to claim it).
Once the Ordsall Curve is open and TPE trains are running Stalybridge, Ashton-under-Lyne, Victoria, Picaddilly, there won't be a need will there? They'll avoid the Glossop and Hope Valley stoppers. Will there be much contention through Ashton and Victoria?
The widget has done this for years (certainly the past 4.5 years I've been commuting by train).
I just wish they could include information about short formed trains. The pacers on my Northern service regularly breakdown and I change plans to get an earlier or later train, rather than subject...
I work in an office overlooking Victoria and confirm there has been no movement in or out since the bombing. Several trains stand at the platforms, and no trams have run. Some trams have been stood at shudehill for days now. There must also be a lot of disruption to freight, I normally see...
