When Regional Railways had a Wales-and-West operation, there was an through Exmouth - Crewe working via Swansea and the Heart of Wales line. Alas, I can't remember the year.

I think there was a northbound one which started at Exmouth, via Exeter, Bristol, Cardiff, Swansea and the Heart of Wales line to Shrewsbury.
