As a member of Ops staff in full orange, I get acknowledged by all the waste collection staff too.. But then again, I get accosted for information even in civvies. I think being a railwayman is just too obvious irrspective of orange.

With regard to your yard, you could have a wagon repair works which could have any type of wagon in. The other option is a Speedlink yard which, again, could feature HEAs with domestic coal, VGAs with any commodity, OTAs timber etc..
A charter was due at Par in the Summer so the windows were open. A couple of people took pictures on tip toes of the box interior, which was fine, until some goon seemed intent of getting a shot of me at the levers. The window was abruptly slammed shut spoiling things for everyone.
