    Birmingham Airport Terminal Access

There is a set of stairs on the side closest to the Air-Rail Link beside the lifts but it’s not very well signed although I was able to use them no problem. Large airport lifts drive me crazy with people keep streaming in preventing the lift from going.

Flights - what time of day?

On holiday flights to Southern European beach resorts, the likes of Jet2 and TUi will often try to bank the flights together arriving from different Uk airports so it makes it easier for the tour operator to get people to/from their accommodation. So you’ll see flights arriving from all over the...

Best Schengen airports for connecting onto other Schengen destinations

I suspect Gibraltar will be another easy Schengen EES entry point when the territory effectively becomes part of the zone and Spain processes arrivals, given that there‘s only a few flights a day in total.

    Newquay to Gatwick to end

Across the water, the Irish Government awarded the Kerry - Dublin PSO to Ryanair, no idea what the commercial terms are but they operate twice daily at mostly very reasonable fares. I do wonder if the same solution could not be sought where aircraft size permits like it would with Newquay -...

Introduction of European Entry-Exit Scheme (EES)

I got lucky arriving there on Christmas Eve in that my flight was sent straight to the egates to skip the kiosks but it seems in future you’ll go to the kiosks (if not registered) then the egates in Spain. I dread to think how chaotic the likes of Malaga and Palma will be in the summer with the...

GWR First Class Host checking tickets

On EMR its standard procedure, the hosts always check all tickets in first class. They must receive some ticketing training as often that‘s the only onboard check and they seem quite good at recognising Seatfrog, Railcards etc. I‘ve had it on XC too from catering staff but they seem to just be...

Trivia: shortest domestic flights over land

During part of the covid pandemic, Loganair operated services Edinburgh - Glasgow - Southampton or Glasgow - Edinburgh - Southampton and you could buy a ticket solely between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Steve Marsh has a video on YouTube about it if you do a search.

    Wizz Air news

It can all be traced back to the bankruptcy of Air Berlin in 2017 and its Austrian subsidiary Niki whose assets eventually got partially sold to Ryanair as LaudaMotion then Lauda. Seems at the time Vienna Airport was keen to attract low cost airline traffic to replace lost capacity and that‘s...

Show railcard immediately - what are the rules?

It really doesn’t help that some of the railcards are a pain to load in some of the apps and can genuinely take a minute or two to load up. There’s no physical alternative to the 26-30 one ether.

Why do people from the Sheffield area fly from Luton?

I actually find easyJet just as bad in this regard nowadays, really brusque ground service and very strict on hand luggage. Jet2 are great and BA still treat their passengers reasonably well on the ground. 1755943390 They do indeed having done that when I lived there, equally this time of year...

Why do people from the Sheffield area fly from Luton?

With the loss of the direct service, on public transport it can easily be approaching two hours from Sheffield to Manchester Airport and East Midlands and Leeds are both similar accounting for the buses. There’s no direct coaches either. It’s 3 hours ish to Luton so it‘s not all that unattractive.

    Southeastern promoting LNER services

A casual observation is that we get quite a lot of leisure travellers from the South into Sheffield for the Peak District actually, in addition to the large student market of course. Not sure EMR can be chasing more custom at the moment until the new fleet is in place….

    Budget hotels discussion

I used to be very pro Premier Inn over Travelodge but I do think some of their properties are not so great. Stayed in the Wandsworth one last month and it was objectively terrible for the price I paid (£135). Visibly dirty bathroom, worn and grubby carpets in the room and the soundproofing was...

Pets should be banned from the rail network

My friend‘s dog is a certain enthusiast, he absolutely loves watching trains go by and travelling on all kinds of traction. He will pull towards the station when walking by it. It’s quite funny. Most dogs are fine as long as they are on the leash, sit on the floor and perhaps muzzled if large...

    Giving gifts to flight attendants

I don’t understand the chocolates thing earlier. A lot of suppliers bring donuts and sweets into my work and while it’s a nice gesture, I don’t much care for it since I am trying to avoid eating that stuff during the work week  Being polite and respectful (sounds easy but many don’t...
